Pekin duck lifespan

an internet search says they live the same as other breeds (8 to12 yrs)
but Im not sure thats right. because pekins were bred for meat and to grow fast and big doesnt that shorten their lifespan?

I think that it all depends on the strain involved. Some grow slower and do not get as heavy as others.

There was a member on here several years ago who had a 12-year-old Pekin . I was surprised since they seem to have so many health issues.

Of my three pekins, the oldest lasted 4 years, sadly. I'm really not sure what led to their early deaths...although one I euthanized because she was no longer able to walk without using her wings, but they were well cared for and so loved. I am wondering if it was that they were hatchery birds - maybe pekins bred in a more natural way are the ones that are able to last longer!
