Oh and forgot ... Didn't use styrofoam after one night ... Got a bowl for him or her to use . I got straw for bedding now is they best? My feed store said it was ....
Straw is fine as duck bedding. However you want to make sure it is switched out with dry straw when it becomes wet. Straw, when wet, can form a mold that can make your duck ill. I use straw exclusively with my ducks (ducklings and adults) and rake out the wet straw daily to be replaced with dry. I find that they like to make little nest (and now that my adults are laying big nest to bury their eggs in) and pine shavings just don't make good nests for ducks. Also, on the imprinting thing, mine imprinted on me for the weeks they were in the brooder but as soon as they went out to the coop they seemed to forget me as now see me only as the bringer of food and the opener of the door to let them out. The adults did the same and only now are beginning to remember that I am the one that was there in the beginning and starting to become friendlier to me again. So, give it time, let the little fellow develop at his own pace, I am sure you will have a friend for life.Oh and forgot ... Didn't use styrofoam after one night ...
