Pekin duckling growing black feathers

I was at Southern States in Burkeville,VA today and they were calling the brown ducklings Cayugas and I told them they are Khaki Campbells. They also had solid yellow ducklings with totally pink beaks that they claim are Welsh Harlequins but they look like and probably are Pekins. They also had Black Swedish, Blue Swedish and Rouens that were advertised correctly. They said the hatchery told them what they had.

As hard as some* of the employees as my TSC try, some really don't know what they're talking about. I called last year and asked one employee if they could see any feather footed bantams in the bantam bin and had to go through quite an extensive explanation on what bantams are, yes they are chickens, and yes some have feathers on their feet. How do you tell? Oh by looking at their feet...?
The same TSC also had a bunch of red sex links mixed in with the Easter Egger and kept calling the straight run chicks, straight line chicks.
I come in there often, I'm quite well known... Not sure if it's in a good way or bad way. I kept checking in for silkie chicks in the bantam bin to add some color to my silkie flock, ended up with 4 ducks, 6 Easter Eggers, a black sex link, 2 red sex links and 2 SLWs.. Whoops :p luckily I have a lot of room to work with and a lot of people buying chicks.

I am pretty positive bills friend, Mable, is a pekin though. "She" has all white feathers, is pretty large and has orange legs. I didn't think I would ever get ducks but here I am with 4, am building a new coop and run for them and am on the lookout for Cayugas and possibly Muscovys.. What can I say? :D

This is what two of mine are doing!! I got them at Rural king here in Indy and my female is all white... except she has a row of black feathers on her tail. The other two which I believe are boys, have those darker brown feathers coming in in the exact same spot above the wings as the first image, though not quite as dark as yours. I'm excited to see how they feather out now.

This is "Bill" and "Mable" today. Still don't know what gender they are. I still love them regardless.

Wow, just beautiful! Either a mixed breed or a genetic throwback. Pekins were originally more like mallards in the beginning thousands of years ago. I wonder what would happen if you breed him/her to another Pekin.

I'm wondering the same thibg :) I'm hoping I have a pair, but I'm going to have a wait a bit before I know for sure...they're about 2 months old now. I've searched a lot and cant find anything about it

Oh wow!!!! I wish mine feathered out like that with that coloring. Mine are looking like fawn colored Indian runners or runner mixes now the older they get. Still Cuties!
