I have two pekin ducks. Peggy I’m sure is a female, and Gus a male. They’ve been together all their life and have always been ok with each other. They are now about 9 months old. A few weeks ago, they have started fighting. At first it was Peggy who would start it and Gus would literally run away. For the past week and a half however, Gus has been going after Peggy like crazy! Grabbing her neck, dragging her around, and trying to climb on her back. I know these are mating behaviors, but why are they displaying these behaviors so intensely all of a sudden? I don’t know if I should do something about it.. today I noticed poor Peggy is missing some feathers on her neck and I’m sure that’s from Gus attacking her.
I’ve read that you should have more hens than drakes, but I don’t know if I can get more ducks.

Worst misconception about Ducks ever is having two works...Ducklings all get along. Then mature into Drakes or Hens and Drakes are very sexual and aggressive breeders.
Hens can't protect themselves from Randy Drakes.
You need more Hens and separate them for awhile..He will rape her daily.

Thanks for your reply!
I thought that was the case. I still live with my parents so I’d have to convince them to let me get more ducks. Or I could give them to a man I know that has a farm. (Which I don’t really want to do but will if I have to.) I probably wouldn’t be able to get another duck till spring. Is that too long to wait?
