Pekin Feed Efficiency - All Hatcheries the same?

I've been poking at the idea of raising Pekins for the Asian Market and have started pricing Pekins and figuring overhead. I've been able to find some for 2.25 at Townline, but they don't list feed efficiency. I've also looked over Metzer's different Pekin varieties. Metzer's Grimaud Pekin Hybrid literally has feed conversion listed. They are also much more expensive -two bucks more per bird. Though, I know Metzer ships quality birds.


So, how much do you think feed efficiency is going to vary from hatchery to hatchery?

I think that that Metzer might be better then the Townline how ever that they would be that much better. In March and april we get alot of eggs from Metzer.We also get eggs from a comercail duck hatchery in Middlebury Ind. I work at Townline Hatchery. Last week I took 3 ducklings home to raise and butcher. I want to try my Whizbang plucker on the ducks. Last week we had alot of xtra Pekins. Townline is a very good hatchery to buy chicks and ducks from.

I sent an email to Townline about their Pekins and got this back.

Good Morning,

Unfortunately, I do not have the information for what the feed conversion rate would be for the Pekins. I know that they are fully mature in 50 days, however, I do not know the poundage that they get to. I do apologize, we do not raise the Pekins for meat so we do not have the exact specs on them. We will have the White Pekins through about July. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

I understand that Pekin feed effiences is better then cornishX. I got that info from the manager of Pine Manor. They raise both.

They are cornishX hatchery . Owned by Miller Poultry in Goshen Ind.They also have contract growers and a prosessing plant. Their brand is Amish Chicken. They also are part of Culver Ducks in Middlebury Ind.
