I GOT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hubby and I got him to hop far enough up I could catch him. He didn't fight me once I had him. So I took him inside to inspect the damage. If obviously started healing, and not very well either. The poor ducks ankle and knuckles were all scratched and scabbing over. I didn't see any bone, and I moved his foot around at all the joints... everything seemed to be working well.

I cleaned his foot off in the tub with peroxide, let it sit... poured it on a few times over a few minutes to really get it in there. Then some neosporian and wrapped his foot with lots of gauze.

As of this morning he got the gauze off, but it already looks a bit better. He's locked in the duck house until further notice. I am going to reapply the gauze and neosporian tonight when hubby gets home. He's a big boy and I need an extra set of hands.

My friend just graduated from being a vet assistant and is doing her internship at North Carolina State university. And she said I've done all I can do since the damage was done over a week ago and it took so long to catch him. Chances are his foot will be disfigured... but I've given it enough of a chance to heal enough he could probably be able to walk on it again.

...At least you can have peace of mind that the legs not broke.

Even if you caught it that day the webbing wouldn't have mended together. It will heal so much faster now that your putting on the neosporian. I wounder if you just put some on without rapping it if that would suffice

Thanks So Much for the update...

He REALLY did not like my husband last night. He tried to pick him up to rewrap his foot and the duck started hissing and nipped at him. I scooped him up and put more neo on his foot without wrapping it. Poor Christmas (his name) didn't hiss at me or nip, but kept it up in my husband's direction. I guess you can tell who handled him day in and day out after he hatched!

So we're not going to wrap anymore, but I'll neo it again tonight. If he wasn't in a 'hissy' mood I probably would have taken photos. It looks HORRIBLE, but 10x better then when I caught him sunday. Makes me want to cry. At least hubby is going turtle fishing, and is removing heads from what he catches. We're overpopulated!
