Hi, my Pekin just hatched a duckling this morning. She's sitting on about 8 more eggs. Would you suggest leaving the duckling with the mother duck to care for or should I bring him in and care for him myself? I have the nest separated from the rest of my birds. Thanks

What does her set up look like and are the babies able to escape? If she's able to take care of them and keep them safe, it's all your choice. If you want them to be more comfortable with you, hand raising them would be better... Hopefully that helps!

They're in a good sized chicken tractor with a good shelter that she's not able to escape from. Mama seems to be taking care of her and I've seen the duckling eating and drinking so I think I'm going to leave them together for now. How long should I allow mama duck to sit on the remaining eggs? From what I'm reading, if they're going to hatch they typically will hatch within a few days of each other.

Thanks for your help!

They should hatch in less than a week of each other unless she had the eggs at all different times... :thumbsup

you can leave babies with her, but keep a close eye, pekins sometimes change their minds about being broody. So have a brooder and incubator (incase she leaves the remaining eggs to care for her duckling) ready to go incase she does, but if she wants her duckling, I say let her go for it!
Sounds as though she's done a wonderful job so far, go mama duck!
