A couple of weeks ago one of our pekins started hobbling. We figured she'd landed funny jumping down from the perch and left her to see if she got better. By a couple of days, she was much worse, so we examined her. What we observed is that she was going through the motion of walking, but with one leg lifted off the ground at all times - she didn't seem to be able to put it down, she wasn't just avoiding doing it. She's been getting worse, and we took her inside and contained her so that she wouldn't be using it and making it worse, but again, she's going downhill.

Not only can she not move her leg down, she now has it stretched out directly behind her. She's obviously uncomfortable even when sitting, and has her wings fanned out to keep her balance.

We're very close to having her culled, since she's not a happy bird, but if it's a problem anyone is familiar with, we'd be very happy to try a recommended treatment. She's my personal favorite, and is such a sweet little bird.

Leg fractures are not uncommon in birds. All you can do is to give it time to see if it will heal on its own. You could bring her in to a vet to get an X-ray if you have the funds for it. They will at least be able to tell you if the leg is fractured or dislocated, and whether the break can heal on its own without surgical intervention (hollow bones have a terrible tendency to splinter leaving them incapable of healing without some armature like plates and screws).

We originally felt for a fracture or break and found nothing, and she can still move her toes and clench, and there's no swelling on either the leg or any of the joints. Unfortunately that's about as far as my knowledge goes. Unfortunately she's not a very valuable bird in terms of monetary value, so I think the cost of an x-ray is not cost-efficient, since our vets charge stupidly high prices for them.

I just had another feel of her, and around (I think) her pelvic region, there's a sharp lump a bit further down. The other side feels normal. I'm wondering if it could maybe be dislocated or something?

It will need to be your call then. I will tell you that dislocations do not heal on their own. A vet needs to take care of them.

I am sorry. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
