Hi - a lady fighting cancer is selling all 150 of her ducks (mostly Pekin 1.5-2yrs old). We went to adopt 2 females. Her farm-hand caught one I selected (because she looked so unique) and one more via duck net, assuring me they were both female and laying. Well, their voices are different. The pure white one (Ethel) has a lower voice and Lucy is louder and more talkative (aptly named). So far in 5 days they've only had 2 eggs total. We find the eggs first thing in the morning in their predator resistant yard, but havent seen which lay. I'm wondering if we have a drake. Lucy is not dirty, she has brown/tan on her as well as a partial green bill. Could she be a mix-breed? Do either look like a drake? Please see photos

Ducks draw vitamins and minerals from the rest of their body to make eggs. The greenish spots on the bill are areas where a certain nutrient is depleted. This means that the one with the yellow bill is probably not laying.

That is interesting, never had heard that, but I will say I have had Pekins that were laying quite frequent and did not have the green freckles on their bill.
