I have a 1yr old pekin and just added 4 more ducks. My pekin will not leave them alone and has harrassed my one buff so bad she has lost her feathers on her head and back(she has just gotten her feathers in). What do I do? Will they stop on their own or do I keep him pened up?

Oh those hormones, I'd give him some time out, if he can't behave then he has his own quarters. Sounds like they may be too young anyway for an amourous drake, if they just got in their feathers.

I had this problem..I had a flock with 2 buffs, a runner and a cuyoga..along with some mallards that took a liking to them. I added 4 more pekins. At first all was well and everyone got along with the normal squabbles that happen in the duck world. Then for some reason after a month or two my Buff drake took a serious dislike to one of the pekin ducks and would go after him on sight. He would get on his back and try to to drown him..repeatedly i saved my poor pekin from the relentless buff. It was breeding season, so i chalked it up to hormones..he did end up drowning the pekin while i was at work one day...and now he chases the others away. just watch him and if he doesn't stop..i'd separate them ..

Thanks, I seperated him today and penned him up...buy he has a mallard girlfriend his age. I had the pekin and mallard 1 yr, and just added the others. My poor mallard got the tip of her beak snapped off by a snapping turttle two days ago and cant eat the food. She is eating from the grass and pond and she hates being seperated from the pekin, should I pen her with him? and give her larger food to eat(she has full beak on bottom)so the small food she cant grasp. Thanks for your help!!!!

Yes if he treats her okay then put them together, give her a deep bowl for her feed that way she can scoop it up. Ducks and chicks born with bill problems are often able to eat if the bowl their feed is in is deep enough for them to scoop out of. I think I'd be doing some turtle hunting. I have read posts on here where ducks have had their entire foot bit off by snapping turtles. and these were adult ducks.

I caught a good sized one today, I am so happy he is gone...going hunting again this weekend to make sure there are no more!!! I have never had a problem all year with them until now, soI am hoping it just moved in and was the only one.
