I bought some day old Pekin chicks this fall from a local farm and received a few free chicks. Out of all the chicks I bought that day, I only kept two. Both of which were my unexpected freebies. My best guess is pekin/silkie mix.

He was 100% black at first until he started to crow, then the orange came in. He’s all fluff, not much bird under those feathers. The only silkie feathers on him are on his forehead. When he gets nervous, scared or upset he spins clockwise......repeatedly. He’s so unique but sadly I can not keep him in my town.

We bonded with him the most from day one. I got home, set everyone up and left for a bit. I watched all the chicks eat, drink and pass out under the heat lamp before I went out. When I got back, he appeared half dead. My wife held him while I searched all over the internet for an answer. Finally I found a thread about a chick that did not drink water and almost died. I knew he had eaten but did not recall if he drank before I left. So I immediately dipped his beak in the water and he began to drink. Came right back to life. After that, he got a name and was a keeper......until he crowed
