Pekin x Runner Duck cross. **THEY'RE HERE**PICS!!**

Quote:
There need to be two copies of recessive genes like white for them to have a noticeable effect, so one of the runner moms must have been carrying white for any white babies to have shown up. The dark duckie didn't get two copies and the pied coloring resulting from a runner-pattern cross is really variable, so it seems he got left with only a dot or two of white on the throat or chin. It's pretty safe to say one of your boys is carrying blue, though.

And are those facial stripes I see on that dark duckling? My guess would be either the Pekin or the Rouen for his/her daddy if that's the case. I don't think the buff would throw facial stripes when crossed with a fawn and white runner.

Pardygwin - That is an eye stripe. When she (quacking today for the first time!) hatched it was prominent and I was sure she was rouen but she's got dark feet and just overall darker than the rouen.

Here she is with her moms:

And now she changes every day:

So she's runner/rouen?

The Pekin's still a possibility. Eye striping can hide under that white, too! Since both breeds have such similar builds, about the only way to know for sure is separate them out and make more ducklings after a couple weeks.

That said, I want an entire flock that looks like your duckie. She's so pretty!!

They look similar to some of the ducklings I've seen at the lake, but more evenly colored. The runner mixes there had a strong mallard coloring, but their body type was runner. I'm better you're going to have some gorgeous ducks!

Just so cute!

They look like my black bibbed runner when she hatched:

Now, she looks like this:

On mine, you can see that she has some mallard eye stripes and the blue wing flash. There is definitely a mallard-colour gene somewhere in there with the black.

I just love seeing how they grow and change! - Do post some updates as they get feathered in

ejctm,

Thanks for the adult pic of your runner. Her duckling pic looks just like my three crosses, only they don't have the stature of a runner. I can't wait to watch them mature.
