I have 3 pekin ducks, 2 females and 1 male. Out of everything that I have read, everything says about the same thing that they don't usually go broody. Well they are all usually together but recently we decided to leave the eggs in the coop to see if one of the female will nest. It seems to have worked. What I am wondering is there any other information about Pekin's and brooding? Or if anyone else has any pertinant information regarding them. Thanks in advance, its greatly appreciated!

I've known a few pekins that would sit half way through then just randomly stop sitting. Do you have a incubator on hand in case that happens?

My Pekins are all absolutely WONDERFUL mothers! I toss aside that info that they aren't good Brooders-- this year I tossed eggs at Day 38 and I bought ducklings for them to adopt, check out my pics on the Old Fashioned Broody Thread. In my experience, Pekins are *great* mothers, but Kevin is right, if you aren't sure about your Duck's commitment, then you need to have Plan B = Incubator.

Sorry it has taken so long to get back. But I believe now its almost time for the eggs to hatch. She is still setting. We did notice this morning that 2 eggs are outside of her nest and the nest looks different. We are not sure if this is a normal thing that she will "kick" out the eggs what possible wont hatch or what. But she has remained on the nest the other than to go stretch.
