Pelleted bedding versus shavings in the brooder. Comments?

Pros and cons, ideas......on the use of pelleted bedding versus shavings. In the past I have used sand in the brooder. Thinking about trying pellets. Any comments appreciated.

I know someone that uses pellets, I tried but it had a fragrance to it that I couldn't handle & knowing chicks are respiratory sensitive went to shavings. But now I use potty pads, have also found the disposable bed pads work good (cheaper too).

I use pellets in my grow out one and I used them once in a hospital cage and they worked quit well it it.

first year I used shavings and the 2nd year I used pellets for horse bedding. I now use pellets all they time.
I put paper towels over the pellets for the first week and they broke down (like they are supposed to). The chicks loved to dust bath in them and it worked really well.
