I'm just wondering what are the advantages of pellets vs crumbles? Right now, I'm still feeding starter/grower, but when they get to the layer feed, there is the option of pellets or crumbles. What's better and why?

Thanks in advance

LaSombra: We have 25 hens we fed crumbles to until they were about 12 weeks old, then we switched to pellets, much LESS WASTE AND BETTER/EASIER CONSUMPTION. Plus they seem to like the pellets much better. I got started with chickens with 1 adult roo and 3 adult hens who were on pellets when I got them, so I could really do a comparison. Pellets are much better. Gotta feed the babies crumbles but switch as soon as possible.

Less waste is the big thing. And if some of the pellets do fall to the floor they are still there and the chickens will clean them up instead of just grinding them into dust (like the crumbles).

Do any of you have silkies? Do you still use pellets? I am feeding crumbles to all except the pheasants and turkeys. I was just afraid that the pellets were to big for silkies.
