pellets vs. mash

My hens love mash. They don't eat pellets... and REALLY like crumbles if they are wet. They'll take wet crumbles over wet mash any day and I've tried both. The only thing I haven't tried is mash with milk. This morning my 14 year old gave them some rice krispies with milk. They LOVED it!

In my 15 years in the Feed Industry, Mash has been used as a generic term for Ground Chicken Feeds, not a wettable powder designed to be fed wet. It may be different in your area, but to definitively state that a mash is intended to be fed wet is misleading and incorrect.

My vote is with the feed guy.

I think you could add water to pellets if you wanted to. I tried adding liquid to feed a couple of times seemed like it made a mess that wasnt very necessary.

I have an old book that I enjoy that talks about feeding stock. For some reason years ago they mixed water with a lot of animal feed. Lot of horse feed had water mixed with it also.

Seems like with all the nutrients and the palatabilty of modern feeds just something else to do.
