I'm thinking of getting some quail (Button or cortunix, not sure yet) but am worried that I'll need to bring them into the house in the winter (it gets about -15 degrees celcius in the winter sometimes). I would be keeping them either in an outdoor aviary with finches or in a high-roofed pen with coop. If I insulated the coop would that be enough? I could maybe find space in the house, but I would need to know the best pen size for them otherwise they may not fit!!

Thanks

This might help someone reply: -15 degrees celsius is 5 degrees farenheite!

Pygmy quail wont do well out side year round. You can keep coturnix in those temps. They will be fine if they can get out of the wind and dont get snowed on... Good Luck, Bill

Thanks.
I have just heard that cortuinix crow at night. is this true? I hope this isn't the case!

If folks up in Alaska can raise them, I don't see there is a problem. You may need to insulate the cage and add light.

Yes coturnix Roos will crow at night. Once one crows, someone will answer... Mine never found it to be a problem. But if they were inside, I can see issues! Hope it works out for you... Bill
