Pen to a coop

I have 6 week old barred rock chicks. They are not completly feathered out yet. Im not even sure if i got pullets or roos. i bought 10 of them and 3 died the first day i brought them home and i have no idea, they had food and water, That is beside the point. Anyway, I need to know when it is ok to free range them because i dont want to move them to the coop untill they can because it has a metal roof and it gets hot in there during the day. They are in a portable run right now where they have a roof and the sides and bottom are wire to where they can have air passing through and get out of the rain if need be. They have access to insects and im not sure when i can feed them treats either. help????
