Pendulum test, day 1... * 7-WEEK UPDATE *

I tried it on my silkies that hatched on Halloween.
According to it, I have 3 boys and 2 girls.
Can't wait to see if it's correct.

Well according to this and what bit of comb color I could discern the boys with this test do seem to have slightly more upright stance and also slightly raised more yellow combs then the girls. I have 2 boys and 4 girls which is good new but the two roos are two of my three blues

Today I noticed 4 chicks have pink combs, and re-tested everyone. All 4 with pink combs test as boys. I compared them to the ones I guessed boys on day 1, and all were labeled boys in their day 1 pics.

There is one labeled boy on day 1 whose comb is still very small and yellow, and today the needle swung in a circle when both DH and I tested. I put "him" in a box with the "girls," and then re-tested them all before I put them back in the brooder. All tested as girls again, except one. The "boy" who tested girl today tested boy the second time I tested him. FIRST inkling of a mistake in sexing...

They're 2 weeks today, no one has crowed or laid an egg yet

, so we're still guessing!

One chick that was marked as a girl on day 1 has a big pink comb and is starting to show red wattles. 15 days old today.

The chick that was having us guessing yesterday, tested boy day 1, then girl and then boy yesterday, still has no comb growth and is testing girl today.

I am thinking not 100% accurate.

Still no eggs!

I did this with some chicks about 10 weeks ago. The first 5 I did have all been acurate. The second 7 I did had 3 wrong I believe....have lots of roos that batch...think I refused and kept testing.... on my self...3 girls...and 3 girls. (no pregnancy for my stepson:

OK I broke down last night and tried this on 30 eggs I have in the bator. Some I am not sure if they are developing most I know are. I hope its not right or I have about 75% roosters. A few would never do the circles or sway, maybe these are my questionables. I put marks on and will candle them in a day or 2 didn't want them out of the bator that long. Good news is if this is even 75% right I can try it on the eggs when we collect them and know which to eat and which to put in the bator.
I just can't figure out how to tell who is who after they hatch without marking them as soon as they hatch which wold mean opening the bator, I need another bator to put the possible girls in 1 and boys in the other. But hey this is another experiment for the kids science right, so hubby can't get to upset.
