It's my understanding that EE covered by brown layer is a crapshoot. Some olive, some brown, some whatever. Can anyone verify?

I think its true but I have no clue, I get the bluest of eggs from my other EE so who knows!

Meet lil Si. I went to TSC today for more duck treats, and he was all by himself. I asked why, and they told me he was the runt of the group, and had also been injured during shipping. So,the kids and I got 6 little banty chicks ( cuz why not spread the love, and we had to buy others or couldn't get him) , and they gave me him to take home and see if I can at least try and take care of him. Hoping you will send him positive healing thoughts and prayers.

Aawwww... hope the little one does better. At least he has a good chance with someone taking good care of him.

everyone here knows what happens when I drink,,,,and since i have a pretty bad head cold, I will be drinking the homemade stuff tonight,,,,,you would be surprised how much alcohol helps a cold........

hubby says if you must buy things when drinking could you atleast buy from people you know instead of ebay........I can live with this compromise......

I have to admit to a bit of chicken envy though.... I would love more but have to wait till some go to freezer camp before we have room. We don't have the property to add much more in the way of coops. Practicality has to prevail here... for now.

I know and my EE lays a pink egg, and these eggs are mostly tan and pink, not that that matters now LOL

I will throw them to the wild critters in the woods later, I sent out pms to some locals I will wait until tomorrow to chuck them. and I will feel really guilty too! lol

Scramble them up and feed them back to your layers for the protein...

If it wouldn't be for my pounding head with sinus infection I would be there,,,,,,,they have a wooden antique incubator,,,,I couldn't find a name on it just said made in england.......doubt it works but it would make a great antique piece...

This will be my biggest hatch ever. I need to build a new brooder on Sunday. Seriously. It will be 8' x 2' x 2'. I messed up on my 6' x 4' x 2' - I can't reach all the chicks! My arms do not reach 4'... I knew this Sportsman would get me in trouble! LOL!

At 5:30 am someone was stabbing me in the head with an ice pick...also known as the beginning of a migraine.

I'd like something like that! Ok...may possibly head out to the York show, just for a little bit to see it, but need to clean house and get DH up first...he went back to bed when he discovered I wasn't getting up....and he's got bronchitis...poor guy.

this is the problem,,,,,I am really bad with genetics,,,,,,I can never breed to be sure of green egg layers,,,,,the few I have do not lay green eggs, or it's a really light tinted egg..

Brown and blue eggs are dominant. They'll blend if a hennie carries both genes. But, if she has one blue and one brown gene and the roo covering her has one blue gene and a light bown/tan gene, the roo could pass the tan and she could pass the brown gene.
