Get a pure mix. Two purebreds mixed together... a tan/light brown layer and a blue layer and you'll get green.

so I shouldn't throw out the eggs? I really don't need any colored layers I have more marans in and I have OE and Ameraucauna too!

And SilkieS your not helping me save these eggs any by jumping in selling chicks, the poor eggs!

Okay, I am getting more mixed up with every post.
I have Ameraucana pair, a BCM trio, 2 EE laying blue now. The EE started out green, but I have been getting blue since the second week.
Am rooster over BCM hen is OE or is it BCM roo over an Am hen?
If I hatch out the EE blue covered by the BCM am I getting a mix of layers? Will the boys carry mixed genes, or just blue or brown?
I am very sorry. I studied genetics a year ago when I got into chickens, but I cannot find my notes, and the info left my head.

Eggs will lighten up with laying, which could turn a green tint to a blue. EE blue and maran brown will produce olive layers. Doesn't matter who the hen and roo were.

I wouldn't. You can always hatch them out and sell them. Even at $2 per chick, it's better than no money back at all, IMO.

having the farm doesn't make it any better,,,,,we are 40 acres and the addiction still is not a good thing..........I now have my breeds and hubby has his, we are not doing the others anymore,,,,,,,,
my breeds are at the bottom of my signature, and hubby likes green eggs and his stupid annoying serama...
besides the duck pen we are staying within these breeds.....

I have about 30 serama for him to choose from, and he can get the poor dozen useless eggs and pick up a few others when your here!

Are auctions an option? I try to hatch a few days before the auction. That gives me a few days for local sales and then to the auction they go. I have 202 eggs in the bator (not counting eggs in lockdown) and just put a dozen under my broody cornish x. Most of these eggs have been candled and infertiles tossed too, so all except maybe 30 are for sure developing.

Hey, I have a nice little serama cockerel he can have. He has been crowing since he was 5 weeks old. Of course, with boys around that weigh 5x his weight, he doesn't crow much anymore, lol.
