I talked a few days ago about concern for one of the chicks coughing.
It turned out to be my biggest chick "Big Sammy" learning how to crow.
I was able to get one on video. It is so funny watching them grow up
They are now almost 7 weeks old. This was yesterday morning.

Cute!

Quote: Better tend to family 1st. Sneak out for birds AFTER.

Now please do not laugh at me, but at this point I do not think any of these calls are gonna hatch,,,,,as all of you know i have no trouble hatching chicks,, have hatched
pekin duck and swedish ducks with no problems, but when it comes to call ducks.....##**####*........I WILL BE ORDERING MORE.....Sorry but I do not take failure lightly, will keep putting call duck eggs into a bator untill I can hatch some........
Hubby just called me phycho, I am sure folks on here can understand this way of thinking....

This is not failure.....it is an opportunity to try again.....

I need a mad scientist hovering over incubator emoticon......
I have calls if you want me to bring extra eggs along when I meet up with Rey to get my geese. We can figure out where you are on the route & meet up too.

Quote: Mine have figured out I will embarrass them back if they embarrass me in public. Mom gets EVEN!!!

remember this when you want him to do one of those projects
Or my old stand-by, "Fine, get out of the way. I'll do it myself." Then he gets moving & does it FOR me.

He doesn't want to be shown up by a woman.

So here are my little ones "Assorted Bantams" I got from TSC to keep lil baby Si company. Happy to say they are cuddling with him, and it was a good move. Just wish he could run and play with them. He does look good, though, and I honestly didn't think he would last, but he perks up at the sound of my voice, and loves being cuddled. he also seems to eat and drink after I come in.
Anyhow, ANY IDEA WHAT THESE MAY BE??? They are quite sweet and very pretty. All clean footed except 1.

2 in front are Sebrights, look like Silver but can't tell for sure with the lighting. The 1 with the stripe is probably a BBR OEGB. Feather footed from TSC means cochin, brahma or d'Uccle. I can probably tell you the other 3 if I can see closer pix.

Instant raised beds........wonder if I could do a few tomatoes in these....they do not do well out in he field,,,,,to much fertilizer think..

stones painted with glow in the dark paint,,,,,I likey this...

greenhouse made with old windows......there's a big pile of these in the barn...
I need to do that, with a path to the coops.

I just removed about 50 windows that were piled in my basement if anyone "needs" any.

MC I thought of you today,,,,,when I went to stir the ff bucket it shot bubbles at me,,,,,,not sure if I was laughing at the bubbles or you....

first feeding of ff went well..

there's one of those round black rubber bowls under that pile of bids......I filled it with about 2 inches of ff,,,,,went back 15 minutes later and the bowl was empty,,,,,,,Think this went well.
Looks like the horde in my grow out pen.

need some opinions on hatching and sally is busy......

these call eggs I picked out 2 that I thought were gone,,,1 looked like it died shortly after lockdown,,,the second was backwards, when i opened the air cell end i was looking at yolk, upon looking farther it looked like it broke a vessel.....
so i opened a third to find out it was still alive, same thing, yolk on wrong end,,,,i put this one back since it was obviously still alive,,,,yolk is pulsating.........i stopped there,,,,, they are 2 days past hatch day,,,,,,,,could these backwards problems be something I am doing or something traced back to the parent stock,,,,,my call eggs have come from the same person each time...
I also just noticed 1 that has a small pip,,,in the wrong end of course....

If air cells are on the wrong end it would be parent stock issue. For babies not turning more likely humidity issue. Calls can get away with lower humidity like chickens since eggs are smaller. They can also take the "normal" 28 days for a duck sometimes too instead of the 26 most calls take so don't give up on them too early. The tiny bills cause problems with hatch sometimes so they may need help if they can't make the pip.

Quote: kicking myself for not paying more attention,,,I do not candle much,,,,i try to let them alone as much as possible...

air cells seem to be where they belong, but when i pop a little shell off to look in I am looking directly into yolk.........there's still some alive, I can hear them, but after seeing that one I opened and put back I decided to just wait it out for a day or 2, they are only on day 28 today........will wait awhile before checking again.......the 1 with the yolk showing is still doing good, I can see large veins and the yolk is moving......

this is kind of new to me, I do not interfere with hatches, If they do not hatch I will break a few open to look, then just trash the rest,,,,,,,

Why is it GREEN?
STOP! I cannot have any more breeds this year!
Has he not heard of try, try again?
I'd prefer it to be in the garden than in his pants...the 2 yo is almost potty trained, don't need to be cleaning up after a full grown man.
LOL...I tease DH constantly that he's too old to do fun stuff....
The 2 in the front are laced something.
I promise its not green. I took the pic with the web cam. So it makes things weird colors .
