I'm not real great with Easterns, but it looks something like a bronze. Could be mixed, bronze or Eastern. (I know, real helpful, eh?) He isn't very old though. I'd say maybe 9ish months? His snood isn't very big. My boys are a year old and even when they're tucked up, they're much thicker than your boy.

He's lovely. Now I want blue ones. His brother is doing well.

So glad Moses is doing wonderfully for you. Would love to see pictures of gim as he grows. He was such a friendly young cockerel. Gideon my blue has been taking a big interest in the ladies lately. I can get you so eggs once he starts doing his duties regularly if your interested.

Thanks Kristen

I'm SOOO TICKED right now!!! I had a customer here picking up chicks & instead of running birds in himself JJ sends the kids to do it. They let 1 of my brand new Slate hens out & now she's nowhere to be found. I just got her Wed so there goes $40 down the drain if we don't find her real fast. For JJ's sake, pray she returns & puts herself in the run by morning. He locked the tom & other hen in the coop but left the run door open in hopes the tom would call her back in.

Get her some chicks, she won't even notice the new puppy.

that would be a win/win!! Right??

She is now busy informing the new addition of all of the fun activities he is not yet allowed to do, unless it involves playing with her! Though I guess she is OK with him because she is also informing the cats that they aren't allowed to pick on the new one too. Hopefully can get pics tomorrow
Hey guys i know there is a few hatching people here so I figured I'd ask. One of my Large fowl cochin hens went broody so I found 13 eggs of various breeds I have been drooling over to put under her. Twelve out of 13 hatched. Have never had that great of a shipped hatch rate! Anyway is that to many chicks for her to mother? She seems to be covering them just fine. She is just beside herself having all those little ones. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! Kristen. Oh and ps I will take pictures later today:)
Congrats on the great hatch! She should do good as long as she is able to cover them all for the first couple of weeks if the nights get cold, and she has a nice, draft free spot to nest. She'll be a busy girl keeping track of all of them! Should be some great picture ops!
I really need to stay off of here when my son's home. He's now obsessed with the idea of us hatching some. He doesn't want to allow the hens to hatch them, so they imprint on us. He has it "all" planned out...

I told him I'll think about it and we need to be sure we have some roosters before we can even worry about it. "But Mom Roo's a rooster!" Next step is to explain breeds and why we can't just let them "have at it," this is gonna be fun....

the dark one is chocolate and copper colored. The red is our (prior) runt, Peanut. They were having issues figuring out the feed and water, so I put Peanut in to show them the ropes and they picked up on it pretty fast after he(?) showed them what to do.
They are so cute!
A bock from my nephews house! argh! I might have to stop by sometime and see what they have. It's too close to pass up! Good for putting under my firewood if nothing else.

Oops! Wrong post to quotes that was to be about the skids!
Glad you clarified! I was a bit surprised you were planning to put the birds under the firewood!

My chicks at 8 weeks old now from Pittsburgh, PA.
They are so friendly and affectionate.
There are a few loners in the mix of 25, but still come when I call.

Beautiful looking girls! Glad they are doing so well for you!

Hope she comes back to his calling! Has to be frustrating!
