Hatching: Orpingtons

Brooding: Orpingtons, BCMarans, BLRW, MF Cochins, oh and more Opringtons.

And, Honest to John, I do NOT know how it happened, but I am once again…a duck owner. This time, it is 2 Pekin Drakes and boy are they pretty!

Congrats....I am always amazed at how 'chicks' seem to arrive. You'll need some girls for those drakes....Pekin duck is really tasty! jmo

Hoping I did the right thing putting my 4 week olds out in the coop tonight. There are 4 other birds out there so plenty of heat. I am a nervous nelly... Also worried they will be picked on, but when I put them in there the older girls didn't seem to care. Ugh...

I'll probably be checking on my chicks throughout their first few nights in the coop. They won't have the benefit of older girls to help with warmth, so I plan on permanently mounting some heat lamps in the coop. More so for winter when it gets into or below the teens, but I figure it will help with chilly spring nights.
