Wait until it's dark. Slip the eggs out 1 at a time & shine a bright flashlight through the fat end of the egg. If there is a baby growing inside you will see it's outline & blood vessels. Watch for movement as well. How do I know if they are alive?

And, Honest to John, I do NOT know how it happened, but I am once again…a duck owner. This time, it is 2 Pekin Drakes and boy are they pretty!
Hoping I did the right thing putting my 4 week olds out in the coop tonight. There are 4 other birds out there so plenty of heat. I am a nervous nelly... Also worried they will be picked on, but when I put them in there the older girls didn't seem to care. Ugh...
I'll probably be checking on my chicks throughout their first few nights in the coop. They won't have the benefit of older girls to help with warmth, so I plan on permanently mounting some heat lamps in the coop. More so for winter when it gets into or below the teens, but I figure it will help with chilly spring nights.Hoping I did the right thing putting my 4 week olds out in the coop tonight. Quote: I've never had electric in any of my coops, thus no heat. I've never last a chick to cold. I lost a couple that fell into water buckets & couldn't get out when I 1st started though.
Love it, they look great!
Quote: They love cheese!! We were snacking on it with apples and they each grabbed a small piece and ate the darn thing like the others eat wax worms. They kept stealing pieces until we put them back in the brood room, didn't touch the apples though. I told you they'd be spoiled LOL.
