Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Gave 2 of our chickens today to a woman who wants to start raising chickens. She already has Pygmy goats...which are awesome...and said she just wants 2 chickens. I found that soooooo funny bc I know what's gonna happen....chicken math!!!!

Just spread the love!

WOW!!! well done you! And what beautiful birds! You have me really pumped up now to go see the birds there! It's a bit of a drive, maybe I can talk MsLadyHawke into going with me. I'd like to show at our upcoming 4H in August and the Fall Sussex show in Jersey, but don't have my birds tested : (. I have my CPT license but am terrible at drawing blood, actually, terrible is not strong enough of a word here. Let's just say, 'it's ugly'. For the chickens, for me...and pretty much anyone within hearing range. I hope Chad finds some time in his schedule to come help me out.

not sure how many of you do your own processing,,,I need a local supply of equipment......bags, labels,etc....also a good knife set with clever and scissors,, i break a pair of scissors about every other week (need to quit buying the cheap ones )..

Since I have been processing every weekend and doing about 10 at a time, it is getting a little pricey always running to the grocery store for bags,,looked at the shrink wrap bags and do not want to go that route,,,I need to keep my cost down to be able to keep cost down for customers..

would also like a recipe for chicken sausage.....(my local darrenkamp's sells some that we all like, but will not tell me what's in it )

It's not really a quarantine if they are still able to touch each other. I am assuming they are just separated because of the size difference. I keep new chicks separated Neil they are roughly the same size but you can always try putting them together and watch what happens. It depends a lot on the agressiveness of the older birds. It's probably a good idea to keep them apart a little while longer though.

I don't have the logistics to absolutely separate them...for the first 5-6 days the marans were only coming out to eat then run back into the coop....all I had to do was throw some scratch for girls to keep them occupied...I got the birds from H&H, and saw their coops/pens were fairly close to eachother....in discussion, Jason mentioned doing full tests weekly...so I am not as concerned with transmission than with the size diff...(buying from somewhere else, I'd be a bit more cautious).

Yeah it's a bit of a drive for me too..I took I83 north then took the turn pike....took about 1 hr 20 mins from spring grove..traffic was pretty good. That's cool you got your cpt license, I am going to do the next class...I'm a vet tech so I drew the blood on my birds, the vets I work for are all accredited but they aren't that good at drawing blood on chickens..LOL. The vet that see birds likes to draw for the neck vein..but birds are too wiggly I cringe thinking about that. I just use a 3cc syringe rather then do a butterfly cath. You can always practice on your birds, the veins like to collapse on some birds (my silkies especially) when you draw back. I could always help ya! :)

Please help if you can, I have a 5-6 month old Buff Orpington that has had ribbon like stools for the past nearly 2 weeks. Most times they are normal looking other than being thin. She on occasion does have watery poop but never have I seen any blood in it. Anyway, besides that issue, my hubby said that when he went to leave them out of the coop this morning Gertie came out & promptly threw up water, no blood. She acts very healthy & is growng nicely but something is just not right & being a new chicken mommy I am at a loss what to do for her. She hasn't started laying yet but the other chicken, Gracie, that I got at the same time as her has been laying now for a week. We went to the Tractor Supply store & told the clerk there about her poop & he suggested that we get the Purina medicated food & mix it half & half with their food. We did this & they have been on the mixture a week now but there is no difference in Gertie's poop. She just started the throwing up water today as far as we know. What can be done? I don't want to lose her because of my incompetence as a new mommy. Any suggestions from any one please....

Centre county has a grange fair sometime in August. We've been there onetime with our kids along time ago. It was a nice fair with livestock and other agriculture displays. I think it's east of state college going toward Bellfonte.
