I love having a horse again... I have my season forecaster!

I wanted to share with everyone that my horse is going through the pre-winter shed almost a full month earlier than normal. So, I predict an early fall! I am thinking winter may be long and not as kind as previous years. I can't say for sure by the horse's shedding about winter, just my speculation.

Oh super

I think we will bite the bullet and put the pool up & just winterize it - don't want to have to waste all the well water to fill it. I hope we can save up enough to get some kind of 4WD vehicle before any snow hits, after last winter I refuse to drive anywhere in our rear wheel drive SUV, talk about scary!

We had a problem with two of our drakes last night and had to separate them. We have a huge rabbit hutch I don't use because I cant reach the back of it And so we put the drake in there. This morning I got up and opened the door to let him out. came out about a hour later he was still there and drumstick was in there nesting!! I leave and come back 30 minutes later...she laid an egg!! How do I get her to lay in the coop or nesting box? I have a golf ball and a egg is the nesting box. I'll attach picture of the nesting box and her. One of the RSL's has a nest in the Coop, I find a brown egg in that nest every morning. How do I get them to stop laying wherever they please? We have 5 acres and it's a egg hunt every morning for me. They are 18 weeks.

I've wanted to plant bamboo for a long time, I just wasn't positive where my line is so I can be sure I wasn't planting it on the wrong side. Not that the guy would've said anything, it's a Christmas tree field that borders us. I just can't stand the workers he hires being able to look into my house if the curtains aren't drawn, and I hate doing that because the sunlight cuts the electric bill. I don't like that they can see nearly my whole yard either...
I guess I'll just deal with it, we should have the new house built and be off this property in the next two years. I'm not gonna put more money than I need to into property I won't own, it'll be hard enough for Gavin to clear it if he ever wants it without adding more plants. That's a whole other rant/issue though...lol.
Yeah we have a tiny yard so its fenced but its the bamboo that stops the neighbors, not the fence. We have a side of the house without bamboo and we are friendly with our neighbors there. But I kid you not... I have walked downstairs when the house is empty to see them sitting on my couch, having let themselves in because the door was unlocked.

Thats a bit creepy..

Bamboo can be very difficult...its like aspen trees...(BTW, the largest living organism on the planet). There are a couple of types (black bamboo, I think) that don't run; but, I have friends that have said they've had runners move 20+yards and come up...the only thing they can do is dig them up or let it take over the entire back yard....its been a 10yr battle and no end in site...
Wow really? Mine does spread, but it puts up around 10 shoots a year, so it isnt very difficult to just terminate those before they get to a big height. And we have a layer of (ripped up) weed netting and just one layer of small sized river rocks and we have never had a problem with it. The people on the other side of the fence have nothing holding it in and I haven't seen it spreading too much yet. I guess we just got lucky with this type.

That would make me blow my stack, us aussies have a fiery temper lol What did they say to you/you say to them?

There's running bamboo and clumping stuff, the clumping stuff doesn't tend to move to much - unlike the running stuff.

How NICE is today, sunshine, a warm breeze. Went and sat out with the chickens for a bit & had them jumping on me and chatting to me till the phone rang, now I have to wait inside till the guy with the pool arrives. Wish I could spend most of the day outside but the house work unfortunately won't do itself

I was just like uhhhh okay. I really really hate my neighbors- stemming from the fact that 1) theyre very rude [take the example of them coming into my house]. 2) when I first had chickens (2 years back) we got them as a random thing and did not have a proper run for them. When it came time to open the inground pool, we gave them too my neighbors since we did not want them falling in, etc. A couple of weeks pass by. One of them gets the COMMON COLD and they butcher my pets and make them into soup.

ANYWAY. My parents are extremely neighborly and friendly with them, so they won't let me say anything to them about their behavior (although they have admitted they agree with me about their rudeness).

And yes it is so nice out! Let my bunny out to play in the yard and sat watching him:)

Get an elementary school class and let them have at it!

I have neighbors across the street who planted bamboo years and years ago. We've been fighting it for the past 5 years. That *$^&! spreads!

That said, I'm sure if you're careful of type and preventative measures, some people may really enjoy it. I personally HATE the stuff.
