yep, I will behave myself.... What are you looking for, we have all sorts of critters here..
I would like to add to my flock but I like different breeds that are decent egg layers

about bamboo---

its very nice .....and building with bamboo can be fun....

but keep in mind it is invasive and almost impossible to get rid of.

people have to put in deep deep blocks to stop bamboo from spreading...........I want to say several feet deep...........so its just an important consideration.

What breeds do you currently have? Are there any specific breeds you are looking for? I have some orpingtons, I know others have various breeds of various ages.

I have blue, black and lavender orpingtons, speckled Sussex and little banty chicks I would like to get some different breeds that are decent layers I would like to get some of laying age and work them into the flock I have some which I thought were pullets that I believe are Orpington Roos (I have pictures on the breed gender question page)

Buy either the snow netting or plastic poultry netting (lowes, home depot and other stores carry it) and the stake like posts that you just push in. It'll be a lot cheaper than other fencing. Also ask your landlord about putting up private property signs, and mention they may cause damage/ruts with the 4-wheeler, usually a landlord will allow the signs if there is a chance of damage. Then in the spring place the plants you want on your side of the netting until they are grown enough to keep them out.
It'll give you longer to figure out what mix you want and to get the plants. I know you want privacy sooner but I don't know that the plants'll survive if you plant them now, and it'd be a shame to waste the money. Also make sure the plants are ok to have with the girls, I know some ornamental plants are bad for chickens.

ETA: As for the dog warn them that if it continues you'll be calling the dog warden, and it upsets your dog and chickens when their dog is in your yard. Usually that's all it takes, most people know there are leash laws and know there can be hefty fines for a loose dog.
You'll see what it is like when you come over - our property is a super odd shape and having the sand mound where they put it, it just ughhh you'll see LOL

On one hand, it's a nice break from the summer heat. On the other hand, I hate getting my shoes soaking wet in the grass walking to the coop first thing in the morning. What's with the low temps overnight?
It is crazy - last year it was super warm for what seemed like forever, which is why I ordered an above ground pool - now that it is turning up later than expected (today hopefully) I am having doubts if we are even going to put it up but with that said from what I see on my weather apps on my phone, august is meant to start warming up again!

Just my 2 cents on the neighbor issue.....You say you like the neighbor and have no real issues with them except for the walking thru...have you discussed this with them (remember people nowadays have no common sense )...they may not realize it bothers you if you are sitting outside and not saying anythin they may think you are fine with it.....I really would try to work with them before putting up fences....when in a town or city, yes fences make good neighbors, but for country life fences make people wonder what you are hiding...

not sure what your set up is but we consider neighbors to be everyone within a 5 mile radius, and we all look out for each other, and always check up on things that are out of place.
They are hard people to talk to, you have to try and pin them down. We are good neighbours, not noisy, turned this place around from being an overgrown mess to something that doesn't look too bad - although the gardens need WAY more work next year. We are friendly and quite social people, it is what we are used to but trying to communicate with neighbours that come across like they would rather knaw their arm off than have a casual conversation is frustrating. I'll get hubby to have a word when he gets home tomorrow - I am a nice person but I can lack tact when I get frustrated.

I want to put some big grass like dividers up on our side of the property anyways as there really is no privacy from them in our own yard and also do it along the front as most of our yard is off to the side of the house, right along the main drag where people drive. When we do sit outside people drive past looking at us as if to say "omg there are people outside enjoying themselves

I do want to do some sort of wire/netting low fence - they have gotten 2 more cats in the past 2 weeks - I really would love to have my girls out in the rest of the yard looking for bugs, exploring etc and not just be confined to their run area.

I have a BB gun, hanging right by the front door - works for a few days then the dogs come back again.

Wow that is nice! And the reason I recommended it is because I have it in my yard and have never seen or heard the neighbors on the other side of the bamboo line LOL
Yeah. they are both really pretty huh. I just think it would add a different contrast to most things that are out here + the added bonus of some more privacy
Quakertown Bucks County would like to find local breeders
I totally forgot to say

I love having a horse again... I have my season forecaster!

I wanted to share with everyone that my horse is going through the pre-winter shed almost a full month earlier than normal. So, I predict an early fall! I am thinking winter may be long and not as kind as previous years. I can't say for sure by the horse's shedding about winter, just my speculation.

Bamboo can be very difficult...its like aspen trees...(BTW, the largest living organism on the planet). There are a couple of types (black bamboo, I think) that don't run; but, I have friends that have said they've had runners move 20+yards and come up...the only thing they can do is dig them up or let it take over the entire back yard....its been a 10yr battle and no end in site...
