Bamboo. Seriously. Bamboo.Totally off topic ....
Anyone have annoying neighbours?? Our neighbours just bought the property on the other side of us for their daughter (which is great), anyyyyyyyyway for some reason no one has fences out here - I am used to fences, good fences make good neighbours lol BUT they are now constantly walking through our yard to get to the other property & using their 4 wheeler, when they can just walk/ride around a shed and NOT be in our yard. Their dogs are constantly crapping in our yard and just lazing about our place.
It ... is ... driving ... me ... insane the past few days. We don't have the money to do a full blown fence around our place and we haven't bought this place ... yet .. so don't want to fork out too much money. I need to do something for privacy and to keep them out as it is just common courtesy, after all we don't go walking through their yard - not that I would, I was brought up to stay out of peoples yards unless invited.
Anyone have any BIG ornimental grasses like Maiden grass - if so do you think they would be good for a little bit of privacy - from what I have been reading the blades of the grass can be like razors so that might be a deterrent, I know - I am evil.![]()
I did think of bamboo but it can then sprout up over into their property line ensuring that all hell would break loose. I think i'll go with the Maiden grass, the bottom half of it is sharp but the top half has long whispy feather like pink blooms I guess you'd call themBamboo. Seriously. Bamboo.
1. It looks great.
2. It grows THICK, so you wont have to see them either.
3. It grows insanely quickly, not like trees or shrubs.
I am so glad I only have 2 neighbors...one of which I am related too! I do worry about what is going to happen when my one neighbor moves or dies. They are older and their property is right next to ours. We have 8 acres but when they built our houses they put them right next to each other. I wish I could go back in time and smack them! Anyway, some people have no consideration for other people. I always tell our kids to stay in our yard. I do worry about the chickens roaming in their yard but I will deal with that when it happens. They don't seem bothered by them.
We have tall grasses and the blades are sharp. I hate trying to weed under them. But my dog and the chickens don't seem to mind. They go under all the time. So it might deter your neighbors from walking through but I doubt it will keep the dog out. I hope you can come up with a solution.
So we have all this land, lots of things for the chickens to roost on throughout the yard. Yet they seem to like my chair I have outside in the front yard. Today it seems every one of them decided to sh*t all over it. I have never seen so much chicken crap in one place outside of the coop!!!! Ugh!
Now that the other Silkie is broody I'm wondering if I should put more eggs under her or will that cause problems if the eggs hatch at different times? They will be a week apart and they are sharing the same nest. Basically I'm just looking for an excuse to get more eggs.....I need help! lol
When we first moved in and had our house built, the parrt time New Yorkers that were 2 acres away would use our yard to party. Wth? They had 2 acres to play on our yard. They did 4 wheeling on our new septic mound. They would drink and leave beer bottles all over our yard. Hubby went out one night with the shotgun and yelled get out of my yard or I'm going to shoot. They stopped after that. Some people have no consideration for others property.
Buy either the snow netting or plastic poultry netting (lowes, home depot and other stores carry it) and the stake like posts that you just push in. It'll be a lot cheaper than other fencing. Also ask your landlord about putting up private property signs, and mention they may cause damage/ruts with the 4-wheeler, usually a landlord will allow the signs if there is a chance of damage. Then in the spring place the plants you want on your side of the netting until they are grown enough to keep them out.hahahaha too funny about bagging it up - I think we are going to find a cheaper way to fence it in - they were rolling through there again today with the 4wheeler and trailer attached, then all walking through in a group, all while I was sitting outside - and I am just going to say I am doing it for the safety of my chickens, when I eventually get game enough to let them go out and explore the rest of the land!
