I have an off topic question:

My bantams are gonna be 9 weeks in two days. The temperatures get into the high forties here at night, and I've been bringing them in at night. They're outgrowing the brooder quickly.

Can I leave them outside in the high forties?
Yes,,I have 3 week old outside..

as long as they have shelter to go to they will be fine

Thought my daughter put the ducks back in their yard......... Nope... :/ Got another call from my neighbor saying that the ducks were back and now there were 10 of them.... :O This time i made sure they all went back in their yard! We have 10 acres here so they had quite a hike today...

This isn't letting me quote for some reason.

But my coop isn't heated...and my windows are made of chicken wire. They have wood flaps that I close over them at night. Is that okay?

None of my coops are heated either. My one coop, my birds can run in and out when they please, it has no door on it. So far my birds have been fine with this setup.

Totally off topic ....

Anyone have annoying neighbours?? Our neighbours just bought the property on the other side of us for their daughter (which is great), anyyyyyyyyway for some reason no one has fences out here - I am used to fences, good fences make good neighbours lol BUT they are now constantly walking through our yard to get to the other property & using their 4 wheeler, when they can just walk/ride around a shed and NOT be in our yard. Their dogs are constantly crapping in our yard and just lazing about our place.

It ... is ... driving ... me ... insane the past few days. We don't have the money to do a full blown fence around our place and we haven't bought this place ... yet .. so don't want to fork out too much money. I need to do something for privacy and to keep them out as it is just common courtesy, after all we don't go walking through their yard - not that I would, I was brought up to stay out of peoples yards unless invited.

Anyone have any BIG ornimental grasses like Maiden grass - if so do you think they would be good for a little bit of privacy - from what I have been reading the blades of the grass can be like razors so that might be a deterrent

, I know - I am evil.

I was thinking of you possibly using some garden stakes and some cheep wire to make a temporary fence. Would probably only need to go where they come through the most. As for the dogs.... Find out if they like a garden hose or not. My two dogs do not like the hose, when they are into something that they shouldn't and i am outside i will spray them with the hose. They normally leave the area where i spray pretty quick. Only thing is you will have your new neighbors coming over asking why their dogs are wet.....

Another option is blackberry/raspberry bushes. They grow fast, are easy to come by, will naturally spread, give you fruit, and more importantly have thorns...hehehe

They had a nice little temporary string line up for when the auction was on, on the weekend, that way all the grass at the side of our house didn't get ruined. I look out this morning and they have taken it all down

I would do the hose thing IF I didn't have to constantly hook it up in the basement to be able to water plants outside - no outside connection - which is something else we will have to do if we buy this house.

hmm....What about planting some trees or something?
Trees would be nice but would take too long to fill out - that was why I was thinking maiden grass, it can grow to 4ft wide and up to 8ft high in some cases, at least grow to 5-6ft.

Was just wondering if anyone had grasses like that in their yard and what they thought of them. It would be functional also as a wind break/something other to look at than a vast yard nextdoor. Hopefully the pool we might put up (still tossing up if it is going to start getting too cold for the da*n thing, thanks walmart for late delivery), would be in the walkway area they go to now but I have noticed if I am in the kitchen I have seen them walking fairly far into the yard.

It just annoys me, they just bought 6 acres that backs on to THEIR yard, connecting the yard on the otherside of us they bought behind OUR property, do they really need to walk through our place

- I probably sound like a nutcase lol but I was always told to stay out of peoples yards so this totally bugs the cr*p outta me - you can tell I am going to be that old, old lady yelling to the neighbourhood kids to "get off my lawn"
