Quote: agreed, do not treat De as a miracle cure, but is useful as a preventative,,,,This is what I do,(my coop are made of all wood ),
my coops are completely cleaned out top to bottom(in summer time ) I mix De and stall refresher then spread around coop, paying close attention to corners and crac ks, then put straw or whatever bedding you are using down, the birds will scratch around and stir this all up...these coops are 5 years old and have never had a problem with any bugs in them..
Woke this morning with chick peeping loudly. Two of the three are in very poor shape. one is so weak, cannot walk-laying on side. Second chick is very wobbly also and just wants to sit. Third is upset but I think that one also is going the way of the others..getting more wobbly, but still able to run around. Their poo looks normal, they have been eating the same food. The set has not changed since I first put them in the brooder. They have only been outside one time-last weekend and that was very short. I have done nothing different in their care. If anyone has any ideas of what may be the issue I am all-ears. I have been hand-feeding them save-a-chck probotic and sugar water. It looks like something neurological or 'like' a poisoning, but I can not think of anything that would have made them sick. Thank you for your help. Danielle
sounds like cocci to me,,,,doesn't matter if those chicks were outside or not, you can transfer cocci to them on your clothes just from being in a garden or other outside area

Quote: This guy sounds like a flipper to me,,,they go around and collect cheap or free birds and resell, never real concern of health........just my opinon, but since you already have them would go get a young bird about the age of your youngest and put with them,,,this is referred to as a sacrifice,,,if those birds are carrien any health problems it will show in the newbie...and please stay away from guys like that, it is about the same as going to auction.

red fox
and a critter which I could not identify, seen it 2 days ago to far away to shoot at, but got the binoculars out to look,,,seemed like a red fox untill it stood up to take off,,,same size and all as a fox but it had spots and a little lghter color than a fox?

Chiques, hubby said if you feel a need to shoot in the middle of night, go right ahead, just let him know you will be doing it..

These are just the things I have seen in the last couple weeks, could be others.

Hello everyone! Here are a few pictures of my new chickens and there coop..................

the big girl tends to stay in the back room and the 3 little ones spent the night in the upper drawer roost..............and in the daytime are all together in the lower drawer which I was hoping will eventually be a nest box.

the little ones have not ventured out to be next to my big girl..............yet I do like that they feel safe and together.

I hope my big girl does not feel lonely-----she can see the others and hear them.

I am happy to report they all are now eating the chick grower feed................they found it and have eaten some. I also gave them watermelon chunks because I was not sure they knew where the water was............and pine bedding just ends up in the water or it gets tipped!
I have some waterers..................yet I need smaller ones -----and non tip.

I did secure the nipple water bottle----- no sure if the little ones will test it out................and I think its TOO LOW for my big girl..................

So I am learning!

my big girl is not panting today! she musta been stressed...............and she seems more at ease when I open the coop door..................after all I did bring them watermelon and spinach!

so you may not be able to see the little ones well----its dark and they are moving.................but they are golden laced Wyandotte, silver laced Wyandotte, and EE.
big girl is NH.

What do you think ? this has really happened for me!

Cant believe I did it!

I worked on the run some more.-------------------but it rains on and off................. Still need to secure some more spaces and then I can let them out. Hopefully tomorrow.

Maybe its okay for them to just get used and feel safe in their new coop for 2 days?

Love to hear your feedback!
