Question....Is it safe to trim the feathers around your birds eyes? I have a Sultan and a SLW mixed with a polish or something. They both have all the feathers on their heads. I am afraid they cant see, they will run with their head down or when I am handing out food they will walk up to me then jump away like they didnt see me there. I have also noticed the one runs into things (she runs with her head down, i am guessing because she cant see?) I know some feathers in their wings hold blood is this true for ones around their eyes?

so you want to give your birds a hair cut. humm okay. you can do this. however the bird is not going to like it. you will need 2 peopel. hold that head still and have a very steady hand.it can be done though it will not hurt the bird.

here is a good link. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/593760/blood-feathers

So last night I went in to do a headcount and catch the extra boys. I find this under my one leg horn girl.

Yes it's shell less, they have free choice oyster and egg shells so I'm chalking this one up to her working the kinks outta her system. At least now I know who my night layer is though.

We have trimmed feathers before without problem, but like Bruce said, definitely isn't something the bird sits still for! DH has been known to eye up a few feathers when he is tying flies! LOL

We have 6 pullets just coming into lay (19 wk old JGs) and have found numerous soft shelled or shell-less eggs on the roost boards or under them. We have had it happen about every time we have new pullets starting to lay. They should work it out within a week or two.
