Hi Everyone! Sorry I have been MIA lately. I have been trying to keep on here but i have been slacking. Sorry.

Hope everyone is doing well and all the birds are doing well. Hi to all the new people!

I promise I will try to be on more! The garden is pretty much kaput, the fences are done, the coops and runs and done so hopefully fall will be un eventful except for feed/ hay storage.

Better Pic of the polish roos. and the darker one has a bald spot that just appeared over night. UGH! I took care of it with blukoat and he is fine now. Just a little bald. but it should grow back in soon. I gave them some extra toys and added another feed dish and am keeping an eye on them but so far i have not seen any more pickers or bullying.

Welcome back to all of you who have been away awhile..it is the busy time of year..well..has been most of the season!

Oh, I am going to try to put the little one"chick-adee" in witht the big girls tonight...she has been with them in the yard run for someime now. Going to put her in the coop first..give her time to ac lament...then I will let the biggins' in...will watch for awhile. Keep fingers crossed for me..I want her out of the house..not that she is a problem, I am tired of cleaning extra stuff....don't have the extra energy most of the time and by the time I get done tending to the animals...well..yeah

My dear friends,
The turkeys came back. And this time, got the game commission out. He tracked down the owner, who is a guy that lives on the other side of these woods and decided to raise them just for watching them, but they just took off. He doesn't want them and told Game commission to tell me to take them.
Two have disappeared, and the game commission thinks between coyotes and traffic it is not surprising. We now have them, and they are safe and sound. No more holding my breath waiting for them to cross the road! WHEW!!!

*My back yard is probably like 1/8 of an acre, a decent size for the suburbs. And I am planning on 3-4 chickens. (Chooks, is that the right term?)

That is fine! I have about the same size. I have 12 chicks living in 312 (13x24) sq ft run and 22 sq ft coop, and I am going to get that down to 7-8 chickens when they are fully grown. They are 8 weeks right now so 12 isn't a problem.

Just a question, can you guys give me your chicken count and the approximate size if your property that you keep them in? I'm pretty sure my slightly less than a 1/4 acre back yard will be enough room, but I'm curious as to what is a goodly amount.

*On a side note, it almost makes me laugh when I think about asking this, when you consider the factory farmed birds that are penned five to a cage.

For all of you who didn't watch it, sit down and don't eat while doing so. This is honestly one of the saddest, most disgusting things I have ever seen and I do not even understand how it is legal. Even if you have no sympathy for chickens (which all of us obviously do), it makes you disgusted about where your eggs/ food come from. I am sick to my stomach and I think I am done eating eggs until my girls start laying. No animal should be treated like this.
