Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Here are other pics of when they were running around in the yard if it helps determine the sex.

I think this is a girl, right? She was the smallest and kept falling when trying to get to her friends. so, my son helped her. I really wanna keep her.

Woo! Got it to work!!! boys or girls??? I am clueless. And I promise, they will have better accommodations! Just had to move fast to get them safe.

I really can't tell in the first pic, but the one in the back on the left may be a tom. The one one on the left in the 2nd pic is def. a tom. His snood is already big.
ETA: The one with it's head cut of in the 2nd pic is a girl. Pretty sure the one your son is hold is a girl.

I think the one my son is holding is the same as the one who was very close to the camera in the second pic. She is the one I wanna keep. And there is one more like her I'd like to have.

The only other differences I can see is that 2 have really really red heads.......a couple have some blue in the head with pink, and some have bigger snoods than others.

That is fine! I have about the same size. I have 12 chicks living in 312 (13x24) sq ft run and 22 sq ft coop, and I am going to get that down to 7-8 chickens when they are fully grown. They are 8 weeks right now so 12 isn't a problem.

I read this. Decided to google it.

For all of you who didn't watch it, sit down and don't eat while doing so. This is honestly one of the saddest, most disgusting things I have ever seen and I do not even understand how it is legal. Even if you have no sympathy for chickens (which all of us obviously do), it makes you disgusted about where your eggs/ food come from. I am sick to my stomach and I think I am done eating eggs until my girls start laying. No animal should be treated like this.Th
Thank you very much for posting the link to the wegmans cruelty video.

I knew there was problems in poultry industry yet did not know to what extent. I have seen some snippets on pbs etc.........this video that you posted the link to..........is very well done and I will be sharing this with my family and friends and folks I know from my church.

I know a lot of people who are very eco conscious and just want to be healthy for themselves and be good to mother earth etc..................this is a no brainer for them. I wonder how many people know the details however.

This info is important for health of people and animals................and seems so extreme that when people raise a few backyard chickens........that issue should be so trivial that no one would object and infact they might be particularly glad that this is done!

I am really moved after watching the video! thanks again.

Thee one with his head turned down on the left looks like a tom. He holds his head like my tom. The hens always have their heads up and looking around and my tom has his head tucked down. I read if you play turkeys gobbling, then your to will gobble back to tell sex. Didn't need to try that since my tom gobbles and struts. Good luck with them :)

I messaged you back!

This is why I wanted to raise my own. Yes, I got carried away with pure show chickens, but I still eat their eggs sometimes. I have only has to buy eggs from the store a handful of times in the last 3.5yrs (usually around cookie season and summer salad season).

I honestly feel like if everyone who has any amount of land had at least two chickens, this problem would not be solved but at least we would be better off than what that video portrays... even a brainless person could keep chickens in conditions better than those (if they try, that is). Sorry for my little rant, it just makes me so mad.

And Lisa- do not thank me, thank Anne. She brought up the video, I just googled it and posted it.

Nice looking turkeys! I am brand new to turkeys also so maybe we can learn together! ;-) I have no idea on the breed to help you. I just picked up 3 of turkeys this past weekend. They are 4 months old and I don't know what mine are either. I have been watching behavior and I am thinking one is a Tom for sure just by his behavior. Here is a picture of mine. I figured out they are Narragansets. This is when I first brought them home.

Ugh I hate when people.post those videos....always makes me so.sad and feel horrible about eating meat. I am glad I have girls of my own that are spoiled to eat their eggs.knowing they are healthy and happy. Those poor chickens.:(

I should be around after 5:30 tomorrow.
