Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Oh, definitely. If my hens got into my neighbor's yard I would totally understand if they had problems with it. And I think 40 chickens is a bit much, but I agree, the Commissioner seems like he will actually review the case without bias.

Thanks chique's chicks for posting. Interesting article. I agree, keeping chickens is great, but KEEP your chickens to your self ( your property) and keep them well. No harm done to have a reasonable number of backyard poultry if they are well kept and not allowed to become bothersome.

On a side note, started my pallet coop! Yay for free pallets!

Define 'reasonable'. ;);)

Annie:

There is a woman on here Sally Sunshine....if you can find her profile and pics etc, she has built a really nice pallet coop....unfortunately she has not been posting here lately....
Sally has been having connectivity problems with her internet. Should be back up to speed when they get it worked out.

So I just got a text from the wife.

My girls are SCARY.
OMG!! I have had this nearly exact conversation with my DH! And yes, they are little dinosaurs in disguise... last week my cat brought in a mouse. He ended up being ganged up on by 3 of our hens and they ended up with the mouse, he ended up thoroughly confused about what had just happened!

Attention anyone going to the 7 Springs Fair!!!

DH and I are going to be there for the day Saturday, we will both be wearing fluorescent yellow jackets with reflective tape, I have red hair and he is 6'5", so we shouldn't be too hard to spot!

If you see us please stop and say 'hi'! Would love to put some faces to screen names...

Looks like we have time off between seminars we want to see from 2-4... should be roaming the booths at that point.

Ray. (Chiques chicks) I remember asking if you wanted any pears or black walnuts, but can not remember your answer...these are keifer pears not much good for eating, but you may have a use for them.

RB:

Just me being my sarcastic self....I have talked a bit with the folks at Pickering Feed....and they a selling alot more chicks than a few years ago...many, many more..I also talked with the guy who sold me my coop...and he's selling more coops...chooks are a growth industry...people want to eat more healthy and people want to be more self sustaining...(just my opinions...) just a reference, but there are three other backyard folks within a mile of me....think of the folks on here..Baym, Devon, LisaY, Wayne, me, Malvern, LC, Swathmore,....Glen Mills, Glenside, Media....all these places are not rural....I have also seen CLs for folks from West Philly, Collegeville, and a couple more surbabn areas ...just my two cents....
Thought I would jump in here, we are in Broomall and had to get a variance to have chickens and pigmy goats. We were the first in the township (that they knew about) to have chickens in a residential zoned neighborhood We have ten chickens and two goats on 1&3/4 acres since May.

X2! So jealous! What're you showing?
I have several possibilities, I have a really nice SLW pullet. I have a super looking Black Australorp pullet. I have some nice blue and black Ameraucana hens. One of my black Sumatra hens is looking really fantastic. I have a black orp pullet that is stunning. She is 100% english. I don't know how she would do. I also have some mottled cochin bantam pullets, and cockerels that are pretty nice. I have to decide how much cage space I will have. I want to save some room for purchases too! I also might take some to sell. Who knows for sure. I sure don't.

The national ARBA show is going to be at the farm show complex this year Oct.17-23. I will be shopping there also. I am looking for 1 or 2 more does before spring for bunny breeding. Also I am looking for a Nigerian doe. Hopefully with blue eyes, or just one blue eye. My Chelsea is going to be 18 soon. I want Princess to have another friend now, before any mourning would occur.

I also need to find out if there is a rabbit 4-H club in my home county or if I need to cross over to Lebanon for that too. Nina is really starting to like 4-H. I don't think she understood it the first couple of years, the is learning the pledge too! Its so cute :)

I also want to say that I am in love with the food I am feeding my birds and its not breaking the pocket book. The last feed that I found that I liked was $25 per 50lbs.

I am now using Brown's Mill for about 6 months. I love it, so do the chickens. It has yeast in it, so fermenting is easy. I highly recommend them. They have many choices and do deliver, far away too! I have a mixed flock, and they have a great variety of feeds for all of my birds. I feed my layers/breeders turkey and game bird pellets to ensure better fertility and hatchability. The most expensive one that I get is the Hi-Energy grower finisher. Its usually around $15 per 50lb bag. Minimum order is 500 lbs. I use a 50lb bag every other day. I have 1 turkey, 2 geese, 15 ducks, and 75-100 chickens.

Hello, crazy chicken people!

I haven't been on in over a week, and I am not going to attempt to try to catch up. I know a conversation was started on winterizing coops. If anyone has a link to the video explaining how to make a cookie tin water heater for the plastic waterers, can you please post it? I am sure the new members would greatly appreciate it.
If it was already shared, please disregard this post.
New members, welcome. You can purchase metal water containers that have a base you can also purchase that will keep your water from freezing. You can also get a plastic one for a lot cheaper.
The plastic one is a one-piece unit.
Night, all!
