Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

my neighbor's little girl was over yesterday and opened the chicken door on my coop!! She apparently did this and got the door stuck open and didn't tell anyone. I consolidated my guineas chickens and keets there any a week ago. Over half of my flocks are gone. Ugh... I've talked to these kids about not opening pens before.... just have to keep looking for them
Indigo:

Sorry to hear your crew went AWOL.....start putting down piles of scratch....and make breadcrumbs back to the coop....my two cents....

Storm is here...not a dry spot in sight, including me.....dang I am getting to old to be running Round in this stuff...

Ray,,,or anyone close, can you save me some feed bags,,,,since my food comes from the mill I no longer have a stash of good bags...

Beaglady,,,I may take you up on that,,,will have to have a soap making class before drinking..

Stake,,,fry up some of that sausage and have a chicken party, we will all offer up advice on making your own....(making a bunch of chicken meatballs for the freezer some time this week)

I can not remember everything else I wanted to.comment on,,,brain is giving me the silent treatment
Wing:

1. I have a bag that could be handed off to someone if you have any Chester Co connections....I also was going to offer to LisaY for insulation....just yell "dibs"

2. choclate beer, I've had a couple of types usually pricy...best bet is to get a Sam Adams fall/winter variety pack...they had chocolate last year///

3. did some breakfast sausage for dinner....was pretty good only needs a bit more spice(s)..I had Blarney visit...she left me with some scrapple from her harvest and I sent her home with some of my Italian sausage....I guess she's going to be my taste tester...

My turkey pen is gone. The wind tore it apart. I had the 2 crippled girls separated and their pen also blew away. Not more than 3mins into the storm I was back out in that wicked wind and rain holding my turkey pen from blowing away or breaking apart worse - after I scooped the two crippled girls up and put them in my shed. Well, after about 5mins of standing in the pouring rain, I started making the trips back and forth, carrying turkeys to the shed. After 6 trips and 10 birds, they were in and I then went on to get some medicated water made for them (antibiotics - I am sure I'm going to have some sick turkeys). I had to set up heat lamps for them and a separate cage for the crippled girls since the black girls can't leave them alone.

I have no idea what I am going to do to house the turkeys now. They can't stay loose in my big shed (it's the one with my breeding cages and soon to be 3 - 3x5' breeding / wintering pens}.

Oh, and I lost 150lbs of feed because the lazy a** that unloaded the feed didn't dump it in the barrels. The water runs under the door of the shed and inside.

I have an idea, but not sure how good it is. Anyone have any no climb fence (4-5') or flight netting, anything, they want to sell cheap? I need some 2x4's, too. Will trade birds for building materials. :(

ETA: Wing, I have a few Dumor chick (game bird starter) starter bags if you want them.
Rey:

So sorry to hear....if memory serves, Home Depot had deer netting....7'x100' for cheap...also some bird netting under $10...(14'x14').I have some salvaged wood some pressure treated some not ....2x4 and some 1x6 compost planks salvaged....if you find yourself in Chester Co...you are welcome to it....I also have some smaller pieces of 4x4 and 6x6....

Chippy- bantam roos I've had good luck with include EE, cochin, silkie & oegb. nasty ones have been d'anver & sebright.

Wing- I have a ton of bags if you need some. I can see how many I can stuff into 1 bag & see w

I want one for the coops (5) and the house!

Most people say 90% of bantam Cochins are nice.  So far, I haven't had much luck.  Byron (Mille Fleur) was all sorts of evil.  His son, Junior, is not nearly as bad as him but if you look like a threat to his girls, I know he'll try teaching me a lesson.  Mario is distant and doesn't pace the egg box like Junior.  The black boys vary.  The black I hatched from BYC's SuTillman's eggs is a SOB.  The cockerel I bought from Jamie Matts is distant and doesn't get defensive when picking up his girls or him.  My Tom Roebuck Jr. boy is sweet as ever.  He'll wing dance while walking around his cage, but once my hand goes in he settles down and will come up to my hand to see if I have goodies for him.  I can bet his chest and pick him up with no issues.  Funny thing is, Jamie Matts' blacks came from Tom Roebuck Sr., so I am sure his and this Tom Jr. boy are distantly related.

My bantam Orps are nice so far.  I have my main chocolate that will take a chance and he an idiot every once in awhile.  A kick boot, carrying and hold down and he's good for a couple months.  I have 2 of his sons growing out and they are dolls so far.  I hatched a black from TKay's eggs and he's a doll, too.  Sadly, he has a hock injury and I am not seeing any progress in his recovery.

I hatched bantam Ameraucanas from LittleAmeracauanMom's eggs.  Flighty and mean.  Never, ever again.  I'll stick with the LF Ams.

Now, on serious note.  I raise my birds like animals.  Not like lap pets.  They are utilitarian.  So, their attitudes may very well be my own fault.  On the other hand, I have had some of the sweetest birds ever raised as I raise them.  Like Chippy, my OEGB hen.  I am still sure more hands-on raising would more than likely make nicer birds.

That was so much help, thanks! I may get a bantam cochin roo because I definitely want some bantam cochin hens.

That's so cool you have a hen named Chippy too! :)

The deer fence is 7ftx100. I left it doubled over itself so it was 3.5 by 100. I used it to add onto my girls run since they liked to wonder and cant free range anymore. it was $19 and some change. Its cheap and cheaply made but it does the trick. Compared to other fencing and their price!

Thanks, Stake! I think you may be a bit to far. I have some rough cut 2x4's but I have a partial 3x5' shed in the works. Two walls are mostly framed and the base is done. I need about 15 more 2x4's from the store to finish it (I have chunks of 4x4 plywood for the walls), since they really are not 2x4 from the store, my rough cut are bigger and much heavier. I could move my goat to that 3x5' shed and move the turkeys to the 8x10 she's in, and include the duck and goose run. I need to figure out a way to make my 3' duck/goose run nearly 6' high to keep the turkeys in. Cassidy, my Bourbon Red, can still jump 5' with his wings trimmed (although, they need done again). It's not a small run, either. A couple rolls of the 7x100 deer fence may do the trick.

Everyone is finally dry and warm. They are enjoying full run of the 12x24 shed. I am not enjoying the stink bombs they are leaving all over.

Thanks! I'll probably go with cochin. The avatar is my current cockerel, but he's only around 19 weeks. If he gets moody he's going right away and I'm getting some banty cochins!

Are you sure that's a cockerel? At 19 weeks mine looked like:
