Lisa, last year I bought dwarf plum trees from Lowe's and they bore fruit this year. I want the dwarf fruit cocktail tree, 5 fruits on one tree. http://www.directgardening.com/detail.asp?ProductID=5556

I picked up some dwarf citrus trees, I have them in a container in my kitchen. So far they are doing well, got them this summer. http://www.directgardening.com/detail.asp?ProductID=1606&nav=fan

I had a brooder and a Banty coop in standing water this morning, I was able to move the brooder to higher ground, but not the coop. The goats hate rain. Poor things.
Go pick up some wooden pallets for the goats to lay on so they don't have to lay on the wet ground. We haven't had the big rains here (TN) yet but according to the Farmers Almanac we are going to have an exceptionally wet winter. I have been digging French drains to channel the water away from the coop.

Already planning for the spring. Looking for dark brown egg layers, green and blue egg layers, silkies and serama's. Anyone want to help a girl out?

Oh, and I have 2 local elementary schools looking for eggs in the spring. I should have my leghorn, silkie and hopefully my white rocks laying by then. I told them I would look for some interesting breeds for them to hatch. Anyone near Pittsburgh willing to donate a few fertile eggs? This won't be until April or beginning of May.

Will my leghorn rooster EVER take an interest in my other hens? He is always with the leghorn hen he was raised with. The other ladies aren't laying yet so I wasn't sure if that made a difference.

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather. I love these cooler stink bug free days!
All of our serama ladies should be laying by then, except the newest chicks. It looks like the cockerels are all Wheaten, as well as 2 of the girls, but I'm not sure about the other 3 older girls. They're a bit too dark, I'll have an idea of some of the offspring coloring in a few weeks. One of our new cockerels and new hens are the parents of the 2 smallest chicks in this pic:

That's their momma, I need to get another pic of them since they're already tail and wing feathered. They're so darn lovey, they'll climb under my one cardigan and lay right under the edge of it all stretched out soaking up the warmth.

oh, one more thing if you are looking at plums, peaches, apricots and nectarine ....I think they can all pollinate each other and can change the flavor of the fruit...I really don't know all the specifics, just a heads up if you're heading in that direction
