Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I love the new birds pictures! I have heard of the blue laced but not a black laced? but what do I know.....I am still rather new to this!

I took some pictures.

Here are some pictures of my window "shutters" As you know I am not a carpenter!
Its so very apparent when you see how NOT LEVELED my coop is............but it all works just fine!

I used hooks that people often hang coffee mugs from so that I could take the shutter off in the summer. It also allows me to tip it open for daytime or nice weather air and light.

My New Hampshire Red named "Ramona" has a black spot on her comb.............I held her and tried to wipe it off ----to see if it was just dirt..........but its attached.

maybe a scab or????

It seems like it has not been cold enough for frostbite............anyone know about this?

I have looked this up a bit on this site and it MIGHT be avian pox or it might be a pecking injury. I will have to monitor. I hope my girls will be okay............what I read said that their are skin versions and respiratory system versions.............its a virus and tends to go thru the flock. I will need to check into this further!

Looks great Lisa! Love what you've done with the place! isn't wonderful that Chickens can't use a level?

I just met Roseschicks yesterday and she was showing me some of her chickens that have little black dots (boo-boos, doesn't that sounds nicer than scabs? :sick) on their combs. She said that was from others pecking at them. Guess that's where "hen-pecked" came from. :).

LittleMissPurdy, love your coop, simple and yet nice to look at! Your new additions are lovely too.

And to whoever got Georgia (my ipad won't let me go back a page right now to look), she's a beaut! Congrats!,

Updates to my coop:

Hardware cloth underneath the coop, and nest box attached. Also made a nifty entrance ramp using some bamboo I had on hard, it's not attached yet, but will be next year; no sense in letting it get weathered over the winter. Aside from painting and a little detail work here and there, I'm pretty much done for the year, and will put the run up in the spring.

Gorgeous! I'm so jealous and you did a great job on the nest box!

Thanks you all for the dental advice. I skipped the cloves and went straight for the Vicodin. It seems to have worked.

Lisa! What a great job you've don,I love your coop, and I do not think that is fowl pox. Are you getting eggs yet?

LMP, your babies are beautiful, I just know you are smitten, all you need to complete the flock is an Olive Egger and an Easter Egger.

ChippysMom, I love penciled breeds, Georgia is a beauty, how will you convince your friend that she is not a namesake?

Who said that they have 3 month old BLRW? Can I get eggs from you when they start laying? I've got 4 girls and no boys.

Lisa...you have done such an impressive job turning that dresser into a coop...wow! I love the shutters! ...I hope your girl is okay...sometimes it doesn't take much for them to get frost bite, it is all about the moisture ( what I've read anyway),...maybe she just had an argument with another girl. Hopefully all is good.

AWESOME!!!!...see, we don't have to be carpenters!!..it looks like you on your way to becoming one though!!! Great way to handle the 'nest box 'situation, looks very sturdy! Now you get to take all winter to study and prepare for the big test in the spring!

** thank you all for the encouragement!! I think there are alot of creative and resourceful peeps on this thread!!...These chickens are very lucky to have such caring & attentive owners!!
I hope everyone has a good night...bundle up, it's gonna get cold!!... a little reminder... if you have outside hoses, you may want to turn off & drain them....we remembered just before coming in for the night!

...it is supposed to drop to 27-ish..it is only 30 now, so it may get colder than anticipated...

This morning I learned the importance of my run... Looked outside the window around 8am and there was a fox sitting by the run just sitting there staring at my chickens. I should of took a picture, because it was a bit humorous too, there's no way of the fox getting to my chickens
Not a good thing to have hanging around.... traps or other deterrent would be in order!

call me old fashioned but I would much rather have a good bourbon or whiskey instead of beer.
This!!! I am a bourbon or whiskey person without a doubt! And have enjoyed a few good moonshines too!

My two cents....you need to chase that critter out of the area...not good to let him test your perimeter...want to rent one of my pooches?

Totally agree!
Hello everyone!...Been there and back again..a TattlesTale!...hee hee..DOn't really know what that means, but, have been very busy! And now trying to re-COOP-erate!!

The new coop is finished and everyone (newbies) is in it. I am up to 6 chickens..yes..6!!! for someone who wasn't gonna have more than 4..never,never,never...yeah, right!!

DH said.."how did this happen?" I gave him a hug and said "it's okay babe, it's just chicken math."..

...we are still married...

They are between 4-6 months, the BL being the oldest. I have better pic of them. Just wanted to show the new coop with the girls. We made the run to be able to 'tear-down' and store nicely. Eye hooks and hinges for easy removal and opening to get in & clean. Sand in the coop. I also put netting over the run for aerial protection. This coop is for their quarantine. After that, they will be put in with the other girls.
We have them set-up in the garden right now, makes for easy cleaning, just rake poopy to hole and cover with dirt! All materials we had left over from other projects and just siting around. The only items that were bought , hardware( screws, eye hooks) and sand. The 'run' can also be made larger by adding more panels.
Congrats on the new additions and great job on the coop/run!!
