Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

LittleMissPurdy, I get up to your neck of the woods about every 6 weeks or so. Do my grocery shopping in Mill Hall Wally World. The av pic is our coverage area, so all yunze guys that are in the yellow area, *wave*!!

LB:

I'm not in the yellow area....but I'll wave anyway....(never learned to follow the rules...)

WARNING to anyone that may be eating breakfast/brunch:

Noticed some weird poo in my run today, this is the third day in a row that I have seen this, and there are a few of these. It is like the urates are most of it, and very very runny, and then the main chunk of the poo (usually the greenish brown stuff) is barely present and a reddish color.

Can anyone help me with this? I am really worried.

Did not get a pic on account of the snow this morning.

ETA: they all have cocci and mareks vaccines.

Here is the notorious Chicken Poo Chart, hope it helps...

LMP...not sure how I got credit for the 'lay on couch with knees bent' advice, but I'll take it! -have you been looking in my windows?

Speedy62 Welcome Aboard!

Sharron, I have the Inversion Table from Dicks, was just looking at it thinking....WHAT were we thinking there? I have fallen out of it more than once...yes, on my head...no, it did not knock any sense into me.

Thanks everyone, Bette day today, painful but not debilitating....

Question..
I could not have a large pen empty all winter, so I ordered broilers from the local hatchery, my plan is to feed for 5 weeks than market them as game hens......how would you go about advertising these...keep in mind I am known as the place to go when you want the large size....my chicken range from 8 to 10 pounds and turkey are always in the 20's.......so going small is not normal..

Would it seem reasonable to package 2 per bag and ask say 9 or 10 dollars a bag.....did the math and it will cost me 3.20 a piece at 5 weeks

blarney, i always have bill standing at my feet just in case, since i'm so heavy, i'm not suppose to do it(make the blood go to my head) but i do it instead of going to the chiropractor, love him, hate to take the time but if the table doesn't help me, then i call and get in there, i have one that always says, try it, if you still need me, call, he doesn't keep me coming back time after time unless i say i need it.

dr. rumbaugh has even picked me up and taken me in, then when hes adjusted me, taken me back , like i said, love him.
also tighten the ankle thingys as tight as i can so my feet don't slide out.

Sounds reasonable to me Wing. I was going to start another batch of broilers but changed my mind since we are planning on moving. Once we get moved I'll start another batch. Thaanks for reminding me! I forgot to plan for grow-out & broiler pens!

The poop chart as Blarney said is a great tool for identification!! I have gone to that 'page' many times...it IS amazing what is normal....like Stake said though..kinda sounds like worms

As a consumer, those look like great prices Wing!! Very reasonable..especially for "fresh" birds!! , Have never sold any thing like that though so, I wouldn't know if your profit margin is where you are comfortable with..you have to make some kind of profit, you are doing all the work.

....,.... used to be a gymnast, know what being up-side is like, Don't like the blood going to my head anymore..let alone falling on it!! Good grief Blarney..they do have straps for those things don't they?!

RB: if its cocci, TSC has Corid....if you are going to Pottstown, I bought their last bag (at that time)....From HeatherScoby: one tablespoon in a gallon for 5 days (mix water new every day), then 21 days of 1/2 teaspoon/gal as a preventative....(you might also consider feeding medicated feed as a prreventative)...

I believe Maraks is a neuro...type illness...

other wise it might be worms of some sort...Heather, certainly has better understandings than I.....

If it is cocci, and you can't find any corid......I should have enough to treat your birds, just pm me....
I actually do have to stock up on Corid/ Ivermectin anyway.... if it is worms, won't I be able to see them with the naked eye and be able to tell like that? And if it isnt cocci, and I treat for it anyway, are there any negative results?

I actually know of the poo chart, and that saved me a lot of anxiety in the summer with the whole 'watery poo' thing.
The nearest place by my that will do a poo check is 2 hours away which is not feasible since I am in school :(
Do regular vets do them?

Hello Pennsylvania folks! We just got our first chickens this weekend, and we are very happy with our instant mini-flock. After reading and researching for months, I am suddenly hearing lots and lots during the past week about weasels. I didn't even know we had weasels in Pennsylvania. I have never seen one or heard anything about them. So the question is: do we have weasels in SE Pennsylvania, and is this something I need to be woried about (as if hawks, racoons, and rats aren't enough)? Thanks!
