Seriously, I hate going to work. I would rather stay home and watch the chickens. This getting dark thing by 5pm really blows. If I get home at 4 all I have time to do is feed everyone before they go to bed. Hubby is gone until Tuesday so I plan to let everyone out (chickens, ducks, geese, guineas) to free range for an hour before their bedtime. I hope nothing bad happens or I'll never hear the end of it. He refuses to let them free range on our 2 acres. Men are so frustrating lol.

Gumby:

If you have a roo or two, I think free ranging might be good...my experience is that the roos will keep the flock together and close...before my roos, my girls started going AWOL...with a couple of episodes of me chasing them through a suburban neighborhood with a fishing net....also, if you have some good shrubs for the flock to hide under, that will dissuade hawks to some extent...also, you get your 'crew' hawk aware...my dogs have chased the local foxes so they give my yard wide berth...and, you have guineas...my two cents...

PS: women are frustrating too....lol

New here, but want to be counted in with my PA peeps! :) Southeast PA for me. No flock yet, that's why I'm here, to learn more!

We promise to overwhelm you with options. You can choose white, light brown, medium brown, chocolate brown, blue, sky blue, green, olive green and a few other shades of eggs.
Then we will start in on the breeds. Feathered feet vs: non-feathered. Want frizzled? Barring? Straight colors, or chickens with black, green and orange feathers?
Want six? Build for twelve! Don't want roosters? Yes, you do! Don't want to hatch your own? Yes, you do!

Don't worry. We will help with everything from chicken math to chicken hoarding.
