I got some decorative gourds and mini pumpkins for thanksgiving decorations. Will they grow from their seeds and will thry be ok/good for chickens to eat? Trying to think ahead here.

LB:

I saved some seeds from a pink pumpkin to plant...alot of my neighbors have donated their old pumpkins for chook food.. since I'm lazy, I let the squirrels chew holes in the outside then l the chooks have at....mine love the seeds and will occasionally peck at the meat...when no scratch is available...

All:

Need some treatment advise on this....thought my boy got into a scrum with a hawk until I saw his comb....is this frostbite?

My chickens put those holes in there themselves. They will climb inside to get to the meat. The minis are great too. And, yes, you can grow more from the seeds.

can you get a closer pic of the comb,,,,,,it looks more like the hens are pecking at him.....frostbite will turn black within a day or 2..

I think I like the snow on the ground, well at least today. I seen morr raccoon tracks in the snow around my coops. Tonight I will be setting the trap again. Thought I got them alll this summer.

Wing:

He has some black as well as white marks on his comb...I haven't witnessed any of the girls giving him a hard time...and he seems to be in good control of the flock....though who knows what goes on in the coop...he wasn't bleeding when I let him out of the coop this morning...but is now....

I have problems with hawks...and have pretty much come to the conclusion that as soon as you chase one out of the territory, another one will take its place...think that is probably case with most critters....if its a good location, somebody will want to live there....

Where are you located? If I have enough people over your way wanting birds we can either make a delivery trip or meet people in between to relay them.
I'm all the way over by Hazleton, Wilkes Barre area. Just south of there off I 81.

'da Hubby's Dad is over in Steubenville and we're supposed to be heading out there right after Christmas to visit but I don't know if we're going to make it or not.
