She's back to pigging out in her box. Gave her water with vitamins, electrolytes & brown sugar. Will add duramycin-10 as soon as I locate it in all these boxes.
OMgosh..that is awful...i am so sorry....please let us know how she does....I have never read anything like it before, but i am new...wow...so sorry.
How did it happen, was she is wetness or something?..or just the temps being low?...I hope i never run into this...

Hope she gets better! One of our favriote loose roos(he's really old) had the tips of his toes froze off, but he learned to walk on them quiet well! Even though he can't do his favriote thing anymore, he loved to take a young roo that thought he was everything and put them in their place!

Thanks Fisherlady. I put her in a box next to the little baby brooder. That whole room stays above 70 & I set her on the side of the room where the heater is. She had been in the outside brooder but I think she got her feet wet in the waterer the other night. I saw she wasn't moving much & checked her to see why. She is getting foot soaks, extra treats & a comfy box for a while until we see how she does.

Question for anyone..... has anyone used the food dye trick to identify who lays which eggs? Does it work well, or at all? We have 24 layers, 9 of which just started recently and I am trying to figure out which are laying which colors/sizes. I am getting some I would call pink, and some which are a darker brown than my original layers (though their color may have darkened since their first molt?) I really don't want to separate them to find out, though I could for a day or so if I really had to. I don't think that would help figure out their rates of lay though, since they would probably change for a few days if I caged them, so I wouldn't get an accurate rate, anyways.

If not the food dye on the vent trick, has anyone found another trick to help figure it out?

..okay, sorry for my ignorance...
Well, the girls have been busy today, 18 eggs so far, and 2 girls stilt in boxes. Our May and June pallets are getting into the swing of it for sure.... but can anyone say "OUCH"!! Found this amongst the regular eggs today...

It measures just over 3 inches long and 6 inches around, weighs just over 4 oz. I know a lot of breeds lay extra large eggs, and we have some nice size layers, but this one had to hurt! LOL
Ouch is right!!

I think she'll be okay. If she's eating, she feels alright.

The brooder she is in has a wire bottom & 2 lamps but my lamps went out for a while night before last. I think she stepped in the waterer & then got too cold. She is the only 1 with any frostbite. I checked everyone else after I found her.

She is drinking too. As soon as I showed her the vit/elec & sugar mix she dove right into it too. I'm more worried about infection. The antibiotics will get added as soon as I find the right box.

Hope she is O.K.
Me too. Hope she turns out ok for you. Poor girl. Looks like those feet hurt. Glad nobody else is showing anything wrong with them too. I'd guess, yeah, she got her feet wet in the water or something like that. My guys have all been fine so far *knock on wood* The only one I was really concerned with was the Leghorn hen with her big floppy comb. She seems to be doing ok though. Frostbite is a scary thing.
