Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Mine have started back laying but are about to get disturbed again. We will be moving them to our new house later this week. No more camper!!!

Good for you Silkie!!! Will you be OH based or are you moving to PA?

Unfortunately, further into Ohio, but I'll still chat with y'all over here & may still make it into PA on occasion. JJ is a big Steelers fan...lol

something tells me you have doubled your chicken population since last time we spoke! I am loving those olive eggs too! Most of my hens were on strike since the end of August! Finally added heat and 14 hrs light and in a week I am overflowing with eggs, time to set up the bators I think, I keep procrastinating and my lot of eggs is now huge!

Not sure I added a lot more, but, they are just all Finally Laying!! LOL and all Hens now!! I had a lot of Roos in the beginning! And Oh!! The Olive Eggs, coming from the BFCM I got from the MD Swap, WRONG COLOR!!!

But i like them too

Thank you Danielle, it was a pain in the bleep and very stressful, however Burce said he didnt have any issues,, breezed through it. I guess its all in who you work with. Dh and I need to get the Health inspector out for our field test part of our CPT yet and we are pretty much set then.

Chad has been a blessing with the lab end of the NPIP stuff. Nan at the state is extremely busy but we worked through all the strange stuff we needed to, paperwork and more paperwork, I didnt just do the independent breeder I did Hatchery as well. We are PT & AI clean, what stinks is now I will have to find equal or better testing if I want to add to my flock. I am an addicted hatcher so it certainly will put a damper on my fun :( plus it was nice to swap and hatch some really cool stuff, my fav was hatching my friend sara's ancona ducks, I love them!

But Chad is going to get NPIP and I can do his hatching of his cool future fowl, peacocks and pheasants!

So if anyone is thinking about npip I can help and I know quite a few tips at this point!
I was thinking about trying for NPIP, it looks like a great way to make sure my girls are always healthy, and taking care of them the best I can. I need to get back in touch with Chad and at least get my girls Vaccinated. And I am thinking of trying to hatch a few eggs, to replenish my flock from within (some girls will be pushing 2, by the time ones I would hatch now would be laying) does anyone else do that? I am not looking for specific genetics, just good egg layers ( Which I think I have) and eggs that are Med/large in size.

How is everyone doing with the winter and coop cleaning? I really want to clean my coop, but it's so cold out, the girls barely leave the coop to go outside, so it is getting nasty... :( I throw down Stall Freshener, that seems to help for a few days, and a dusting of DE.. I really want to swap out all the Straw though.. Mostly I add more, since there poo is a heat source, I don't want to discard it completely.. I have also been throwing my Coal Ashs in their run area, figured they would like to dust bath in it

Well, I hope everyone had a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!! If I do not log back on before! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

My name's DreaminOfFarmin if any of you wanna follow/creep. I have all farm/homesteading related posts.

If you don't have a pinterest account i highly recommend it! There are so many cool coop/diy ideas! I absolutely love it and am getting tons of mew ideas for my coop that I'm building in spring!

Hi Y'all,

I just officially joined the forum & am in Lititz. Anyone else in/near Lititz? (Just north of Lancaster.)

Wondering if anyone is interested in helping me find good homes for my 2 extra Lavendar Amerucana roosters. They are starting to fight for dominance so I would like to rehome 1-2 asap. I have now connected with someone can take one in a few months; anyone up for sooner?

Here is my original post from the free rehoming forum. Someone suggested I repost on this thread:

"We have 2 Lavendar Americaucana roosters who are 6 months old. They were hatched from eggs we ordered Garry Farm (found through this website). We ended up with 3 roosters and we would like to find a loving home for 2 of them if possible (we have friends that will take them to eat them, but we thought we'd try to find a home first).

Really pretty and healthy. No sign of any problems.

We live just north of Lancaster PA. We thought we'd try here before Craigslist since we're less likely to have someone take them and abuse them.

Please let us know."

Also, I took this picture last night of 1 of them. They all look roughly the same:

Let me know if you're interested!

:)

I have a question, I am researching incubators, and I like the brinsea, but they are a little pricey.  Does anyone have either of  the incubators from tractor supply? If so how do you do with those? Are they actually as bad as the reviews I've been reading?

Lets just say I have been less than impressed by the Styrofoam ones.

As Sally said, coolerbators work well and the concept can be adapted to large boxes, like old mini fridge, etc.

The key is a good thermostat and ventilation. A fan can be used to circulate air to stabilize temperature, like an old computer cookuing fan.
I built one from an old non working mini freezer, a thermostat, a large computer fan, and some light bulbs. Using junk I had around, it was under $50, holds 120 plus.

Welcome! I don't need any roosters, but yes there are several near you. Two of us are in Mount Joy, one in Mount Greens, one over near Denver, and a few I forget, but close by.

I would love to have him but I'm way over in the edge of Ohio. He's gorgeous & would fit well with my rainbow flock of colored egg layers.

ok, thank you, I may try to build one, that or get a brinsea mini, I could get in trouble fast if I make one that holds to many at once....lol!
