Update on my little pullet with frostbite:

She now has a name, Miss Stumpy. Her feet have fallen off. I gave her a soak in warm diluted peroxide water to clean her stumps.

I also trimmed the fluff around her vent & the tip of her tail because it was getting poopy.
Then she got painted with blu-kote.

Then she got new pink boots.

She's now back out in the brooder in the garage with 4 other chicks half her size. She tried to shake her boots loose a couple times but then decided a drink was a better idea. I'll unwrap her in about 2 days & see how she looks. She will be getting more electrolytes & antibiotics in her water for a few days.

Maybe when she is healed you can outfit her with suction cup feet.

JJ was talking about trying to make her some shoes but I think she will adapt fine once she's all healed up. She even managed a "half-perch" this morning on the side of the feed bowl while eating breakfast. She's a very determined little bird.

You guys are posting so fast! I was fifty pages behind. I actually read them all. Hey, I'm on vacation! Yay Poconos!

Silkie, your poor little chicken with the missing feet, I'm sure she will be okay, animals are tough!

Blarney, your rooster is so gorgeous! Even with cream on his comb and wattles.

I am getting so excited to get chicks soon, even though I don't yet have a source (help!). Where are you located Blarney? You look like you have some wonderful things hatching...

Welcome new people!

Has anyone ever hear of Backwoods Home Magazine? It is the BEST homesteading magazine out there, and I think many of you would enjoy it. The most recent issue detailed a homesteader who set up an indoor fodder system to grow several trays of greens for her animals in her living room, made out of PVC pipe!

Vacation ends tomorrow, and then I have a lot of packing and shipping to do on Ebay. Woo Hoo extra income!

Now we are headed out to dinner.

ohhhhh in a champagne glass hot tub!!!!!! funnn

I think I have my wish list narrowed down. I want EEs, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, and maybe one other kind. Six or eight. Any reasons I should not have 2 of each? What should the fourth one be? Compatability, ease of care, size differences, etc. I do want dual purpose but there are only 2 of us living here now, so don't need super egg producers. I would like a variety of colored eggs just for fun.

Marans, welsumer or penedesca for some dark chocolate eggs. Olive eggers lay pretty eggs too. I vote for 1 of each kind. I don't have any 2 birds exactly alike. I get a rainbow in the coop & in the egg basket.

New Chick close up

My new chicks seem to do nothing but eat....

So in my girlfriends old shed, we thing this used to be a coup, so we decide we would rebuild...we plan on no more then ten, with 6-8 to start...

Frame out the bottom, make sure we have plenty of room for the ladies...

Floor is in

Put some old flooring down, to make it easier to clean inside. also frame out for hen boxes.

Starting the far wall

Outer wall with our chickie door, and we are done for tonight...

Will update you more as we get more done.

Haha! Hot tub yes, champagne glass shaped, no. :lau. House was beautiful, bigger than our own, and had a beautiful fireplace. But there's no bed like your own, can't wait!
