Silkie: Tried that....gave her a last soak yesterday at dinner time...she went to sleep in my arms in the water....forced some water and meds..by bed time she didn't have enough strength to hold her head up...thanks for the suggestions....
Sorry Stake! Keep us updated . :hugs
We have 5 hens. 3 New hampshire reds and 2 Buff orphingtons. We have been getting 3 egg per day without fail since November. We are only 2 people, so thats more than we eat per day. We usally give our surplus to my brother and our sons. We also have been making a heck of alot of red beet eggs, which I love. We just picked up a Red Bourbon tom and a Narragassent hen turkey and will be getting a Red Bourbon hen on saturday. We are preppin/homesteaders so were building up our food stocks.
Awesome, we want to get into homesteading eventually and get away from the 'burbs. I think 5 will be our perfect number of now. :). We love eggs and have an abundance of neighbors.
Hahahahahahah YES!!! I didn't even realize that!!! :lau N-N-N-N-N-NO! I'm WAY too young!!! Although a girl in my school is pregnant... :/ Awwwwwwe!!! Congrats!! :love
Whoops! Definitely save the real babies for later and enjoy the feathered fowl for now. ;)

That should work.

I forgot to ask how long I should do that & will it matter if the other laying Orpington eats from it too?  Thanks again.

I would let them all have it (except any roos you may have) for a couple days to get them boosted up & then do it about once a week after to keep them boosted. I have 1 that is my tattletale if JJ starts slacking on putting out the calcium. She is the 1 that survived being egg bound. Her shells are the first to get thin. She's very sensitive to calcium levels.

:love Cuteness overload!! Just did something stupid...anyone else guilty of this? Pulled up to the house and wanted to check 'real quick' on one of the coops within sight. So I dash down to this coop without the benefit of my boots...now I'm soaked, shoes, socks and pants...I KNOW better, and yet, sometimes I do it in bare feet....in the snow...just cause I don't want to be bothered finding boots....duh.

Been there, done that, usually not barefoot but have ruined a couple of good pair of shoes that should have never seen the coop! LOL

Kind of looks like I might have 1 like that too so I hope I can get the shell thickened up before anything worse happens. Thanks again, I do so appreciate this site, y'all have helped me out so much since I joined.

I just had to put down a pullet that was egg bound. She was one of the nicer ones. It often hurts to lose them that way.

I feel like it's a common occurrence this time of year, with daylight increasing and birds coming back into lay.

Is anyone going to the Delmarva show April 5 and 6?

I sure hope to. Depends on how my flock is looking.
