Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We have bobcats in Northern York County ~ few, but we do have them.

Funny story on this note. Have family in upstate Pa, Bradford County. My uncle heard this (true) story. But I don't know if it was told to him by the actual farmer. This is the reader's digest version:

Farmer calls Game Comsssioner: I saw a Cougar on my property.
GC: No, you must have seen something else, they don't exist there.
Farmer: Okay, but if it comes back on my property, I'm going to shoot it.
Cougar reappears on his property, farmer shoots and buries it.

Three days later the GC knocks on the farmers door. 'We know you you shot and buried the cougar. We need you to dig it up.' (Apparently they had a tracker in it and were keeping an eye on it)
Farmer: It doesn't exist, you go dig it up!

Don't think it was retrieved, not sure. Crazy!

I can't wait until it gets warm enough that I can do a Spring Cleaning of my coops.  I just got a 10% off everything coupon from TSC and am going to go buy a bunch of bales of wood shavings!   Is it strange to be happy about that?  :hide

I'm always way more excited than I should be over a great deal! :P

Sorry to report I had a fox incursion this evening.....Looked out my dining room window around 5:00p and a fox was sitting 20yds away with feather in his mouth....called the pooch and ran outside,,,,the young fox ran when the backdoor opened and went over the fence....found on of my BO's with bite puncture and alot of feather loss...she was brought in given neosporine and given some treats....she's eating well but is unsteady on her feet because of her attack...couldn't find the baby roo in the process....after walking the property for and hour he came out....he lost some tail feather in the process....guess he interceded.....

On a good note, my pooch went over the fence after the fox and hope he chased him off and made a statement....probably need a second pooch

Sorry stake. I can only imagine the way you're feeling right now.

Any trackspert? I'm not sure on this one. 2-2 1/2 inches across, 8-10 apart.

Masked bandit?

The male Feral cats are looking for females NOW! That doesn't say it killed your chickens only it was in the area. They are BIG and nasty but they don't target the guts like rats do.
Anchor those traps good as it could run off with it.A rat trap to a cat is nothing and will pull right out as long as its anchored and can pull free.
No it not coon,grinner,or shunk.

It's a double print as the hind foot it tracking the front making it look larger than it is.

It was around my coop, I didn't lose any, that was someone else.
I have lost a couple over the winter, but that happens. I don't like it, but I can't build fort Knox, my pop doors stay open, etc. I've lost chicks to blue jays, even! I know its harsh, but the strong and smart survive. My work schedule doesn't permit me to be overly protective.
On the same note, most of my roos have lost their combs this winter. They are ugly, but they survived.

No WILD cougars/Mt lions in Pa. The ones we do have we released by the drug dealers.Cute as young and hard to handle as they get older.Hard to kill and get rid of a body of one so you just take it for a ride and let it go.
Same as the guys that dump their fish in the local lakes from their tanks.Good thing Piranhas can't survive in our cold water!

Don't know about the big cats...but, kinda like the fact that PGC has got some elk back in the woods and if they ever got wolves or cougars back, that'd be ok by me...course...I wouldn't have to deal with them...lol
