Had a mini freak out moment yesterday while outside with the chicks. One of them just plopped down, flattened her body out and stretched her leg. Then I remembered how my Aunt's chickens enjoyed sunbathing on these lovely warm days. Then a couple other chicks did the same thing. Thy look like they're hypnotized when they do this. I love learning all of their new behaviors!c

I'm so happy for you! Having chickens for the first time is something you really need to cherish. When I look back on my new chickenhood ownership days, I smile at all the things I thought and did. I wish my hen was a little pullet again. I miss those days. In a few years you'll wish your hens were little again.

Very nice!....I think you should make certain it's fertile by dropping in the incubator.

when I first witnessed this "'sunning" behavior----I was a little worried too..............now I see them as just in a state of bliss!

kinda funny how initially I thought they were ill or dying and then realized it was more like bliss!

Well started with 42 in the bator and as of lock down I had 29. Well at the end of day 21...today....26 have hatched.

We've let the 19 meaties (2 groups 2 weeks apart in age) out the past 2 days to free range in the yard. At night they are in cages in the garage. Little butterballs were hysterical watching them run across they yard trying to be the first to the food bowl when we walked past to fill it (3 times). They wandered back & forth between the kennel with a tarp over it for shade & the wall/door of the garage. They never even attempted to leave that small area of less than 20 square feet. Lazy things kept lining up allong the base of the garage wall where the sun was shining to sun themselves & stay out of the wind.
