Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

good idea with the calendar. I keep two binders. One for all expenses..one for the birds themselves...also have a section for hatching info.

Great idea!

Fisher, it is not lack of equipment for the record keeping, it is just laziness, I have huge 4 month dry erase boards and 2 smaller 1 month boards...I just never take the time to write on them......I am still the person taking the brown bag of papers to the accountant every year,,,he looks at me weird when I do this.... it has just never been top priority, but hubby thinks that it needs to move up on my priority line.

Stake, I do feed back the eggs from the layers, these are the pure eggs out of the breeding pens, somehow eating them seems like a waste.

CC, I have similar record keeping abilities, seems good at the time.

Fisher, I can not help it all I could think when you said the eggs are a healthy snack was, since when has cannibalism been considered a snack

If hubby thinks it should be a priority, maybe he should do it?

Couldn't agree more, it that will not work since he is not involved in the day to day running of things,,,hence the reason he wants better records, we are very seldom home together all week long and he can not answer questions for anyone since all info is stored in my head.

Why did no one stop me...
I got all the eggs from the weekend buying spree...
Now keep in mind I have never had geese or even pictured geese eggs......where the #### am I gonna put these humungous things, I am playing tetris in the incubators as it is

You're asking people here to stop you from getting more eggs to incubate?
What are your thinking !!!

Obviously I was not thinking...
At least I can ask for pictures of the best way to play tetris,,,wonder how many I can really fit in there.

On top of space being limited, both the hook bill duck and the Sicilian buttercup egg senders were very generous, almost double what was expected...and of course 5 geese eggs, I may need to spring for another bator

I had no luck selling extra eggs on auction,,
Anyone here interested in the extra eggs from Friday, sat, sun...can ship Monday morning...make offer and price of shipping..

On average it would be
2 eggs a day from the white scovy pen
4 eggs a day from the bantam Cochin pen
3-4 eggs a day from the white bresse pen ( this is the pen that the purity is in question, I found a bantam Cochin too in here, but I doubt the big boys would of allowed anything)

I can nt set anymore and I hate eating the purges.

Are the cochins your mille fleurs? I loved those when I visited you.

BTW, here is a pic of the first chick that hatched from your pair of Rhodebars:

I wish we were closer, I still have lots of room in my incubator, just not enough space to raise everything I can hatch.

Sally is breeding legbars. https://www.facebook.com/SallySunshinePoultry She is down by Cabela's

OMG!! I wish you hadn't shared her facebook page and that I hadn't gone to it. Her birds are beautiful!!! I've added rabbits, ducks and turkeys already this year (plus 11 chicks but they don't count yet). Now I'm going to have to add some of those brahmas and legbars to my list. LOL

Sorry, just trying to enable everyone lol SallySunshine is great, full of information and her birds look beautiful. One day I might have her brahmas, gorgeous.

More baby chicks!

I think I see 8. One is a Rhodebar or RB mix from the pair I got from wingstone a month ago. The others are New Hampshires and more of the blue Bredas, those Bredas are so prolific we stopped setting eggs. If anyone wants some Bredas, either chicks or eggs, I bet I can get you a good deal. They are odd in that they have no combs, and still quite rare.

I really want to pull these chicks out, but there are at least 2 eggs still pipped and I know I should leave them in there. The first out was late last night, so I know they are fine staying in there, I just wish they could come out and play.

I tried to take a pic through the viewing window, but it didn't come out well at all, so this will have to suffice for now. It is from last week's hatch. That little splash Breda was watching the camera phone very intently!
More info on the bredas please! I need cold hardy but heat tolerant birds. Ohio weather is pretty similar to PA's so if they do well there they should be ok here too.

Hmmmmm...you really wouldn't want to see mine devouring the carcases from my Easter dinner then.

Goose eggs always go in the middle on the bottom layer. Stack bantams on top of them to help keep them from getting to close to the heating element.

That's what I did a couple months ago! Still playing Egg Tetris.

Ummmmm...I don't have space for everything I hatch either, but I sell a lot & eat what doesn't sell.
