Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

More info on the bredas please! I need cold hardy but heat tolerant birds. Ohio weather is pretty similar to PA's so if they do well there they should be ok here too.
They are comb-less, but have wattles. Most of what I know is from reading about them on this site and feathersite. GFF imported them some years back, but don't sell them anymore. I'm not sure why, I suppose they weren't as profitable as their current stock. I see people selling hatching eggs for $75 a dozen from time to time, but I have no idea if anyone buys them for that (I could advertise "Pottstown Special Barnyard Mix" eggs for $20 each, but that doesn't mean their are worth that).

The chicks are adorable, but the eggs are smaller than I expected. The young birds, especially the blue ones are very pretty, their feathering reminds me of a cochin, a soft blue look.

LMP- I was thinking the same thing. Since when does a man do anything he can get out of doing???

Hey! I . . .

Oh, never mind.

Quote: Yea, me too. Anyone wanna just buy me a house? And a car, since JJ totaled that too.

So guys:

I'm almost out of my layer feed and will be going to TSC tonight. You guys know I just got a duck. What food should I buy that chickens and ducks can eat?
Ducks can eat the same layer as chicken, but 18-20% protein is best for ducks once they reach laying age. Flock Raiser from Purina is a good choice, but a bit expensive. If you have a mill local you can check with them to see if they have any layer that is more than the 12-16% protein in most commercial feeds.

Quote: I love blue birds. None of my birds ended up with frostbite on the wattles, just the 2 big combed roos on the points of the combs. Where did you get your birds/eggs?

Were you about to say you resemble that remark?

I've come to the conclusion that the coop will not be done by this weekend so I spent a couple hours and threw this together out of some scrap pieces today in the garage. I was starting to feel bad for them being in the two large dog crates like they didn't have enough room to move. I can spring clean my bedroom too since they're out in the garage now and get rid of all that dust! Think they'll be ok in here until 8 weeks old? There's 17 of them and the dimensions are 4' X 6' and 3' tall. I still need to build them a couple roosts but I'll do that tomorrow. I'm beat lol.

It looks great! Good work! It should be fine for them for a few more weeks... to alleviate their boredom you could sacrifice the clean garage and put a small kiddie pool in with sand in it for them to scratch and play in and let them out of the brooder once a day for some activity. It will not always be easy to get them back into the cage though, but we had a similar group once and we taught them that a large bowl meant goodies and we always fed them from it in the enclosure we wanted to get them into... they still come running when they see us carrying a similar bowl! LOL

OK, going for the thread hog of the day....pics of my 3wk olds....any ideas on Girl/Boy? BTW, I hate cell phone cameras.....

Haha! What a sight! Our garage is anything but clean right now lol. It's a huge 2-3 car garage but still has a ton of junk in it from when we moved in plus all of the materials and building equipment for the coop lol. I'd be afraid that if i left them out I'd never find them again lol. I'll just climb in with them and play lol

The only definite roo I see is the GLW mix in the last pic. The dork is definitely a pullet. The 2 others are hard to tell without a better view of the top of the head, but look pulletish from this angle.
