Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Chicken chores are never ending, I remember years ago trying to turn the chickens into a business, we have done that and let me just say, be careful what you wish for,,,,,these days I very seldom have time to just sit down and enjoy the chickens..
But on the bright side in the. Last 2 days we have sold 25 roasters and 14 dozen eggs and ephrata Agway called for a load of straw (hubby better get moving on fixing the big truck).

Now I am taking a half hour break and going to sonic for a banana split, I do not care how fattening it is...

I waited to long and can not find the potatoes to plant, anyone know if places like home depot carry them

My neighbor may have extra, any particular kind?

Doesn't matter, hubby wants to try a potato tower, just an experiment.

Wow...so awesome!!!

Between you and Lisa..I feel so inadequate today...geesh, you guys are awesome..you ROCK!!! Does this have wheels?...or is it light enough to drag?....if you wanted to move it.

I moved it by myself, but I had to put some 2x3's under some places to get it to slid. I need a better rope to allow me to lift the leading edge a bit more.
I might try removable wheels on the next one.

I thought I'd pop into the thread. I'm from Lebanon County just 5 miles off of I-81.

I am looking for some dual purpose breeds to raise and maybe breed. I'm looking especially closely at Delaware's but have thought about New Hampshire's too. Anybody near by breeding these breeds?

I have some heritage (not hatchery) New Hampshires. They are the "German" line, there is a long thread on this site about them if you are interested in learning more about the history of the breed. I only have one pullet laying, so building up a decent breeding group has been slow, but I think I am about ready to start selling chicks. There were some other people in this thread that expressed interest a few months back. If anyone is still interested, pm me.

I find the New Hampshires beautiful. The eggs are large for the age of the pullet and the chicks seem to grow a bit faster than my other breeds, and even the barnyard mixes (seems like the least valuable ones often perform the best, this being a rare exception).
Here's a pic of my trio. The roo is very well behaved and tolerates me picking him up and holding him like a baby. He always looks a little indignant, but resigned.

For Delawares, there are some heritage strains around, but I don't personally know anyone with them. If you are interested in a step up from hatchery stock, but perhaps not quite show quality, look into Whitmore Farm in MD. If I had the space and time, I'd get some of them and cross a NH roo with the Delaware hens to make red sexlinks. I bet they'd be great dual purpose birds since the roos of both grow fast to a large size.

I don't think you can go wrong with either breed.

turkeys enjoyed a day out.
Well, heck! I wanted to let the little ones out (2 weeks now) but thought it would be too chilly for more than twenty minutes. Thinking about it now, I didn't realize until now how old they are. Oh well!
Your babies are adorable.

Our Lowes and YBC sell them. Walmart too.
Have you seen then grown in feed bags?

Mc, we seen the one's done in bags, he wanted to try the tower first,,,,, we quit growing potatoes a few year's ago,,,they were just to much work.

What's your chicken's favorite food/treat? Corn is the favorite for mine, they will go nuts for it and absolutely devour it, leaving not a single kernel. I put out a whole box of goodies this morning and every chicken went for the corn first. What does everyone else's chickens like the most?
