Good morning everyone! Please wish us luck. Yesterday we got our poop boards covered with linoleum and temporary walls up to cover the holes for the nest boxes and the other door opening. We're hoping to get the roosts put in place and painted this morning and move everyone outside later today. We just can't wait anymore, they've outgrown their brooder. I always leave it open during the day so they can have more room and hang out either inside or on the top. Well yesterday, my daughter came out to the coop to get me and show me the chicks. There were 5 of them "free ranging" around the garage floor led by our little bantam roo, Chip lol. I guess I Should've expected that to happen eventually but after 3 weeks of them just hanging out on top, it surprised me lol. Chip cracks me up. My husband claims that he suffers from "little man syndrome". He's always the one crowing and strutting around like the king and never afraid of anything. The other boys put him in his place anytime he tries challenging them but he just keeps acting like the boss all the time lol.

I put the last of the turkeys out yesterday. I am so happy this morning, it isn't funny! No stink, no complaining to go out, "we spilled the water " or "we're awake! We wanna make noise!" They are happy in their new pen next to the chickens. I was surprised they weren't roosting last night. I think that will come when their pen isn't so new to them.

Well it turns out is not going to happen today. Just went out to check on things and the caulking around the bottom isn't dry yet and needs touched up. The kids and I are going away for the weekend so DH has some work to do lol. Monday is the new date we're shooting for.

Yep, isn't it nice when you get to kick them outside!!! checked on my chooks, most stayed in the coop and a few were hiding under the coop looking pretty water logged....

Hoping everyone is staying dry..or as much as can be expected right now..
We have a small stream running through the basement right now..the finished side..thankfully it is NOT the dirt side, that sits a bit higher naturally. I do believe that i could stock that little stream of ours with a few "natives" right now if i had them..

We have learnt over the year being here..in the mountains, that with all the underground springs, you don't want to keep too much in your basement. This time of year can be a little WET! We were actually expecting this to happen when we had all that snow on the ground , then all the rain, but nope......well, it does take A LOT for this to happen and the ground-water level is full to say the least. The old folks of our past knew enough to slant floors to make sure that if/when this sorta thing happens, the water goes where it is supposed to.
We are fortunate though, our sump-pump is working well, doing it's job, and I don't have all kinds of crap down there to move and worry about...just a roller cart/laundry rack/wet-dry vac..gotta have one or two of those things!! The chickens are happy enough, maybe a little cool, but DRY!
Other folks I know are really hurting right now....fingers are crossed for all of you who still have this weather system over them!! Good luck to everyone today!

Sorry LMP that you have a river in your basement. We are having heavy rain here now. It was windy this morning and has calmed down. At least it will water my herbs I planted this week! I hope it stops by tomorrow, got too much work outside to get done!
